ok my buddy just got a 99 sunfire vert with a blown up 2.4, band he has a 2.4 out of a 96 he wants to put in it, he just wondering if its a straight swap, im sure it is but i told him i'd post here just in case
you sure? both cars have the same engine, it just the one in the vert is F**KED over and he's taking the 2.4 out of his coupe and putting it in the vert, i cant see any problems with it
yes but you may need the 99 egr -less manifolds(intake and exhaust)
he could put the 99 manifolds on the 96 engine couldnt he? and i dont know much nothing about 2.4's and neither does my friend, he just needs the car on the road asap
The differences between the two motors exist. I will tell you what you need.
the 99+ have a different knock sensor (2 wires and smaller)
99+ Different Intake ,
PCM
waterjacket.
Different exhaust(sorta)
Compression
Follow these rules only if your keeping all the parts from the 99 beside the engine itself.
1) Knock Sensor - In order for you to fit 99 knock sensor into a pre-99 engine you need to order #82496860 part from GMPartsdirect or a dealer this will be a adapter that will allow you to screw in the newer sensor into the larger knock hole(other option is to retap it or weld a nut, my way is easier)
2) Intake Manifold - No Change since were going to delete the EGR you can keep 99+ intake.
3)Exhaust Manifold - Use a 99+ Exhaust manifold, this will block the EGR Port in the back(keep existing)
4) EGR Valve Front - The EGR Pipe+ Valve are just sticking out right front. You wont really need to remove it because the 99+ exhaust manifold will block the port in the back. However I like to remove that crap. EGR Block of plates to remove it.
