I'm going to look at a 1998 cavalier tomorrow. The guy says the car is a 2 door base model car and he thinks it has the 2.4 twin cam engine. But I thought you could only get the 2.4 in the z24 or a ls 4 door. So did any non z24 coupes come with the 2.4 ld9?

no not in a cavalier. to my knowledge at least. if it is a z24 it will be fully loaded. and the 8th letter of the vin is a "T" if its not a T but it does have a 2.4 in it their was prolly a swap done to it.

Yes, the RS (Rally Sport) came with the 2.4 not the base model though it only came with the 2.2 ohv

Couldn't you of ordered a bade model with a 2.4 as an option?

I had a base Sunfire that had a 2.4

No all base cavaliers were 2.2 the sunfires were different due to the fact they only came with 2 options se and gt no base option where as cavaliers had the base which only came with 2.2 then the rs came with the option of the 2.4 and the ls did and the z of course were all 2.4 these facts are from 95-99 cavalier and sunfires

Yes the LS came with the option of the 2.2 or the 2.4, 90% of the LS cars came with the 2.4 and the rs i believe was about 70% came with the 2.4 and 30% came with the 2.2, where as the base model cavaliers i was talking about never came with the 2.4 read the post he wasn't asking about the LS he was asking if the base came with the 2.4 which was never produced but could have been swapped but would have taken someone with a lot of time to do so since everything would have had to been swapped
