What F-Body flywheel for 3800 swap
Sunday, January 03, 2010 8:42 AM
I understand that i need an F-Body flywheel for my 3800 swap but my question is what year(s) camaro/firebird had the correct flywheel? The guy at the parts store said he listed 4 different part numbers. Thanks for any help guys.

Any year with the 3800. Mine is from a 98. Dont bother getting a new one, its just gonna have to go straight to the machine shop to have a @!#$load machined off. Get it from the wreckers if u can find it.

I cant find a used one locally but a refurbished one is only $70. Do you know if the 0.84" specs are correct before i send it off to the machine shop. Thanks man

.84 is correct from where it mounts to the crank to the clutch surface
this info can be found by searching

also visit car-part.com because depending where you are in North carolina theres accually a bunch of them at wreckers ranging from 45 to 70 bucks. if you can get the flywheel to crankshaft bolts too thus why wreckers are better can usually talk them down too

^ IMO, if it were me and it was only a 10 dollar price difference between new and used. I'd go with the new, just in case.

i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick

i would never buy an aftermarket new flywheel i would take a used GM one and have it machined more so on the 3800 that is externally balanced if that flywheel isn't right your FAWKED and if its comming out of a car that was wrecker chances are its good

.84 from 1.14 yeah wear means DICK ALL any imperfections in the surface will be on the shop floor

the only issue with mine was the wrecker that had one the teeth were all jacked up on it and i didnt have time to wait on shipping but yeah if thats an option i also had mine balanced twice

The balance of the flywheel is the most important, like Matt says, if its out, your fawked, it will be tossing bearings very quickly and you will feel it at idle for sure, everything will vibrate.

Dude, you're from Iowa. I thought having teeth jacked up was normal there.

HAHAHAHAHA

the 3800 is balance off the flywheel if you true up the flywheel or change it at all the rotating assembly will be out of balance and like issak said wearout bearings just machine the flywheel to .84 install the OVEL hole to the same location as the OVAL hole off the auto flex plate and your done there should be no debate on this topic

Just to futher more add. Any 96-02 camaro or firebird will have the 3800. Not ss,z28, formula or trans am. The base models which i said.

I how ever would like more details on the electonic part that you all did. Which way would be better for keeping the stock gauges working. Megasquirt or which ever. I have a 3800 out of a 00 gtp. Along with a 00 2200 5 speed tranny. To do the swap this spring. The 00 2.4 5 speed I done last spring isn't enough. It's a 99 sunfire if that matters.

Sorry to hijack

I did thank you very much... Well not make a new thread. I've been on here for awhile. But was asking really which route would be better for the stock gauges to all work. I've read it all and it is right out there on all the info either.

What is this .84 measurement you all are speaking of here?

3400 SWAP DONE. 187WHP 212TQ (14.2 @100MPH NA) 240WHP 310TQ (N2O)

Re: What F-Body flywheel for 3800 swap

search............................ ugh.

.84 is the measurement from the back of flywheel (crank face) to front of clutch (pressure plate engagement).
