i know another timing question .. but i picked up a 99 2.4 z24 5 spd cavi for 300 bucks knowing it needed timing work well im a almost sure it jumped time and dint destroy anythang cause i did a compression check and all was good .. i dont have a lot of experience with thease cars thats why my haynes manual has been at my side the hole time . i have read how to install the timing set in car on about a million diffrent sites but . i was wandering it yall had any advice for me doin this timing chain set install for my first time ever ..
or atleast a good timing set to buy
i went with a Cloyes timing set when i did my water pump. its a fairly decent quality set. if you've been reading up on how to do it, it's pretty straightforeward. locking the cams is the best idea GM ever could've had for this setup. makes things so much easier IMO. just pop 2 of the ignition cover bolts into the cam gears and lock them in place with the predrilled holes in the towers and your cam timing is set. it's very hard to @!#$ it up, but many have. just be sure after you set the timing and release the tensioner to rotate the motor by hand a couple times. make sure there are no jumps, the chain doesn't skip teeth, and make 100% sure the timing marks line up. fairly simple.
as far as the crank goes when i have 1 on tdc was your point lined up on the crank or was it off a little bit , from what i have read some people after installing the chain have had to fudge it a little
it was pretty much dead on.
ok well all i have done so far is got the motor mount off nd the motor jacked up and the crank bolt lossened i ran out of sun shine so i will pull the balancer tommorrow
