Just curious, since people have swapped everything from V6 to V8's into our cars is the 5 cylinder or the 2.9 4 banger from the chevy colorado can those be swapped into our cars as well.

Heh, I'd love to put the 290 HP straight six (same engine, one more cylinder) from our trailblazer into my sunfire, but somehow I don't think it would fit between the wheels, even The thing has a monstrous oil pan, too, 7 quarts!!!

Maybe if it was tuned to get rid of some of the conservativeness of the throttle. But you woudn't likely get the thing to fit. Way to long to fit across the front end of the car. The 2.9L might fit, but it'll be tough.

Something simple to consider when thinking about the I5:

While it may have 3 cylinders less than the V8, being a straight engine it is most likely longer due to the fact that all 5 cylinders are in a line. With the V8, it's really not much longer than an I4 (a little due to the offset of the banks), because the cylinders are separated. With an inline, it's all 100% added length when you increase the number of cylinders.

Now, I really don't know what the dimensions are, but the general theory would probably play out if you take the measurements. Interesting idea, though.
