Somebody should honestly sticky a how-to on this. This gets asked alot.

Don't let the punks get to you. If they can't say anything helpful its because they probably
have VERY LITTLE IF ANY MECHANICAL SKILLS . Talking crap is just their way of hiding that
fact. They figure the more crap they say the less likley anyone will know how dumb they are.

Ok, well I will make a general list of what you need.....

-Engine
- Trans.
- Wiring harness
- ECM
- Trans mounts
- Engine mounts

I do know that you will need to weld the trans. mounts in...or at least one, cant remember....as far as other info im not sure, never done it, just have basic knowledge of the swap....

Ok, then you will need motor mounts, forgot. I know it will bolt in, minus having to weld in some trans. mounts. Other than that, swap ECM, wiring harness, I think that should be it if I remember correctly.

Only trans mounts that need to be welded is if your doing the getrag swap. Since your cars seem to be the same year, you'll need the complete upper motor mount for the 2.4L. All the other mounts bolt up. I have done this.....had a 99 2200 that was getting swapped to a 2.4L and all I changed was the upper mount bracket.
You will need a PCM and the complete engine wiring harness. You'll have to redo you power steering lines to an extent, and also fuel lines if I recall.

Yes, Fuel lines are also different IIRC.

Easy swap if you have the parts, time, and knowledge/ability.

what needs to be done with the power steering and the fuel lines?

My cousin had a 96 z24 that she wrecked, and mine is a 97..both 5spd.I don't think it would be terribly hard to swap.

the fuel line have a clip by the firewall, you should be able to unclip the 2.2 lines and clip the 2.4 lines in, I know thats what I did on my v6 swap..

you will have EVERYTHING you need on the wrecked 96 for the 97.

They mentioned PS lines and fuel lines, just use the ones off the wrecked car.. you could do the swap in a weekend if you knew your way around a car a little bit.
