3400 MUFFLER/ EXHAUST

Well I was really dissapointed this weekend. I went to the race track back home and ran 15.2s to a 15.5@92mph........... The same track last summer I was running 14.2s@99-100mph....... Only thing I have done recently is I put a flowmaster muffler on it and it KILLED the power... Sounds great but I just cant believe the power loss. I have a 2.5 all the way back over the axle. I ran it with no muffler until this weekend. Looks like Ill just have to deal with the sound... Id really like to have a muffler on it minus the power loss. Any suggestions?

If the muffler is killing you at the track, just put a cutout in your system. Otherwise, it might help to switch to a Magnaflow.

I really like the exhaust cut out idea that would be great for me once i go turbo later on. I wounder if you could make one from an old throttle body or something i mean if u by an electric one its like 300 buck from summit and the manuel ones are like 50 something not bad but if u guys are like me I have a lot of spare parts and crap laying around dosen't seem like it would be hard to make something work. probably smarter to just buy one but hey its a thought

wow thats a big difference, I'm not an exhaust expert but a cut out sounds like the easiest solution so you can keep your current exhaust without sacrificing the track times.

What was your exhaust setup last summer when you were running the 14.2's? I'm swapping a 3400 into my cav and am all ears for suggestions...

Now you're running about the same times as me. My best though was a 15.03, then my laptop broke cuz I was gonna give it a bit more timing.

Post up slips? New and old best times, for comparison.

Ill post the slips when I get home... Its embarrasing to me running those times coming from low 14s... I had the same exhaust last summer minus the muffler.

I can't see a muffler making that big of a difference in times. That's like losing fifty horses

I don't know where you're running at now, but I see that Maryland Intl Raceway has an elevation of only 80 feet above sea level. Where I'm at here the elevation is over 800 feet. Not a ton of difference, but it could cause upwards of a half a second of difference. I'm sure the addition of the muffler is just a number of factors that's changed your time.

Plus it looks like you have about the same problem with hooking up as I do from your 60' time on the slip in your profile. lol

The funny thing about that is, the track I race at here where I live now is 1200ft above sea level I ran a 14.22@97 mph here... and budds creek is only 80... Exlpain that one...
