I was wondering how many miles about i should be getting on a full tank in a 97 Z24 (2.4)automatic.mostly highway miles B.T.W. i have 179500 miles on it
Not sure if this helps but... My 02 ecotec manual I get 370-400 per tank all interstate.
I got 205 on my last one. It was all in town driving, + driving like a complete dickhead.

Farthest I have gone on a tank in my 98 is 480 miles and I still had just shy of 3 gallons to go. That was all highway at about 60 MPH. It is a 5 speed and only around 104K at the time.
Farthest I've ever gone is mid 800's (kilometres) on a tank of gas. (highway, 100km/h constant, NO CHANGES in throttle control)
Shortest I have seen is 350-380km on a single tank, in town, winter (lots of idling and car warmups)
i filled up my tank on the east side of iowa just a stones throw away from illinois and drove 255 miles back home and had about 1/4 tank or more left. This was all highway and some small city traffic. Few hills and running about 65 or 70 in some places....with my 2001 auto LD9

Farthest I've gone in my Z24 was around 750km
In my 2200 I went just under 1100km Don't ask me how I did it i have no idea

I've done 801 and 804 kms before, all highway driving nicely. (Thats 497 and 499 miles for those people who can't do simple math)

You have a smaller tank than the 95-99 cars. I think its only around a gallon though. Driving habits make a huge difference with fuel economy.
power to weight makes a diffrents too
The 2200 has been shown on many occasions to out MPG the 2.4L. However if you insist on driving at 75MPH+ your economy is going to suffer big time regardless of the P:W in our cars. On that note my 98 Z has to be a fair bit heavier than most of teh cars that came with the 2200. All of my decent economy runs have all been done during parts runs to make deliveries, or heading out to NE. to visit our favorite pedo.
I keep it under 60 usually

Not so much at highway speed. Weight is less of an issue, and wind resistance is.

I own a 99 sunfire 2.4l and my weekly driving for work across the province gets me around 650km a tank - i'd say like 90% highway driving & 10% intown (just over 400 miles) on my 57l tank (15 gal) - i have 204,xxx kilometers on it (126-127,xxx miles). seems the average when you drive highway (i do 120km/h on 401 - 75mph for these numbers as well and i say i have a more than grandma heavy foot on it)
I own a 2002 Cavalier LS Sport (ecotec 2.2) and have been tracking my mileage and it is a mixture of highway and in town driving. The vehicle is sitting on 18's, lowered and no major sound system..
On October 10th the car was filled up to 12.68 gallons, the following fuel up on the 17th was 13.46 gallons and drove a total of 294 miles with a total of 21.84 mpg. At the next fuel up on the 27th, with 12.70 gallons and a total of 313 miles driven I got 24.64 mpg using 89 fuel octane. At that fuel up I switched to 92 octane and am interested to see the outcome in the next week.
All I know is these numbers are an improvement to the consistent 18mpg at an average of 200 miles (11 gallons) that I was getting with my 1985 Pontiac Sunbird Hatchback turbo 1.8 engine.

i have 2001 2.2 and i get around 650 km per tank, used to only get around 500 until i changed my fuel filter, made a big difference, car has 227 000 km still running very strong.
The results are in and let me say I am not so impressed either... In my previous post I decided to go with 92 octane and have not changed my driving style what so ever yet I got less mileage out of that tank. I ended up getting 22mpg rather than the 24mpg that I got before. I am not completely sure if its affected by the decreasing temperatures and the fact they oxygenate the fuel; however, the previous fill ups have been after October 1st (the date they started selling the modified fuel).
On a side note, just fueled up the hatchback and sure enough its getting a consistent 18mpg still.

man, my 05,auto eco, i'll get 450 KM'S out of a tank on a good day, I usally get around 400 week to week
my 00 5 speed, eco fire gets 480 km's on a good day.........
my 1st tank of gas with the blower on i got just over 250 haha
my 5 speed LD9 wen about 800kms on a full tank goin about consistent 150, bouncing to 175 occasionally
I get about 340 a tank in my 97 z24 and that's highway and city and me always driving crazy when I drive right I get 360 a tank
