I just bought a ecotec that only has like 3,000 or less miles on it for $300 (I couldn't pass it up)
I got to looking on ecotec forum and It says this.

While all ECOs swap back and forth between vehicles and engines with a little work and the right parts, they arent all direct boltins, one relatively common one would be a Delta(cobalt/ion/g5/hhr) L61 into a J body, there are some parts issues to take care of to do this swap, and courtesy of Freqz heres a quick list of what you need and why.
this is just a "parts needed" thing, and definitely does not contain info on how to do the complete swap.(please see the ECO swap threads for detailed swap instructions)
fuel system:
The Delta Ecotec uses a returnless fuel system. The Delta injectors should still work however.
Parts needed:
- fuel rail
- fuel lines (Already needed with j-body Eco swap.)
engine mounting:
The Delta vehicle Ecotec uses a different upper and lower mount setup.
Parts needed:
- Upper engine mount bracket (The part that bolts to the motor.)
- J-body Eco oil pan
- Lower mount bracket (Where the dogbone bolts to on the motor.)
transmission, 5-speed (I don't know about autos.):
The Ion F23 Getrag mounting is completely different(mounting points) than the J's. Either fabricate
your own mounts, or find a J-body Eco 02-05 Getrag. Other than the mounting, the
transmissions are identacle.
Parts needed:
- transmission
- transmission mounts
power steering:
The Deltas use electric steering... no power steering pump or resevoir. You should see
a block off plate where the j-body pump would be. However not many Deltas have the pump drive hex in the intake cam.
Parts needed:
- J-body power steering pump (off of an LD9 or L61.)
- intake cam
Miscellaneous parts from a J-body:
- oil dipstick
- oil dipstick tube
- all cooling lines (the Ion reservoir is on the driver side)
- evap line
- cruise control throttle cable (if you have cruise.)
- stock intake box (if you aren't using an aftermarket setup

BUT mine is already an ecotec sooo..... I was looking at my motor in my car (02 ecotec cavalier) and under my ps pump there is like V shaped piece that is made on to the head and It has a block off plate.
The 06 ecotec don't have this piece. I was just thinking about just getting my head off of my 02 and put it on the delta bottom end and see if that will work. What should I do?

If you have an ecotec in your car all you gotta use is your engine mount, Swap oil pans so it will bolt up to the engine bracket. Power steering just pull that cover off the engine and see if it has the hex if not just put your intake cam. Transmission wise your better off getting a cavalier one unless you wanna swap internals out of that one into a jbody housing.
Actually now that i think about it depends what year because some of them use a different reluctor wheel on the crankshaft meaning it wouldnt work, I THINK 06 is one of them.
