Well after i screwed up my front end pretty good, i've decided i might as well go ahead with the 2.4 swap.My cousin had a 1996 z24 MT in which she got hit.Cars been sitting for a while... but no visible damage to the motor or anything under the hood.
I know ill need to change he head gasket and such.. just to make sure.
I'm fairly sure ill also be needing
The engine
Tyranny
Tranny Mounts(yes i know they need to be welded... but not quite sure where)
Computer and all the electrical stuff from the 96
I have a white faced gauge cluster from a 96or a 97 sunfire(got it at the junkyard) will it work?
Passenger axle?
Anything else i need from the 96 z
or anything else i should know
Thanks to anyone who can help me out
Well... pretty much everything pertaining to the 2.4 motor & the manual tranny...
Engine
Trans
Engine & Trans Mounts
Engine wiring harness
ECU
Exhaust, manifold etc
Both Axles
Center console
Pedals, unless you want a big brake- then just the clutch pedal
Shifter Assembly
Shift Cables
Gauge cluster
Clutch master cylinder, lines
Flywheel
The auto transmission mounts will need to be removed from the frame and the new 5 speed mounts welded in. You have to measure EXACTLY where they are on the old car before you torch/cut them off- and weld them in the new car in the same exact place. Take lots of pictures.
the cluster will work if it is the same year as the motor. for 95-99 js they have to be the same year. only the 00+ are interchangable
Your frame rail will need to look like this once you are done...
The engine bay stuff is easy, the interior stuff is a bitch.
You gotta remove the complete frame behind the dash in order to drill the 2 small holes and 1 big hole for the clutch master. Remember...
Measure 3 times, cut once, or else you will have more holes in the firewall than you need.
Good luck.
Thanks for everyone's help.I realized what a large task this is going to be.How much it's going to cost to fix my current car(the one i put through a pole... see wrecked section) so i may just buy a blown up cavalier with a 5 spd and swap it out... or a sunfire. As that would be pretty much a snap compared to what i had planned.
1999 2.2 auto
I do have a buddy that will be helping me... and he does most of the work.. He's just more engine savvy than i am,Swapped motors in his camro a few times.
But i do buy the food.
1999 2.2 auto
I have a question. where does one find the rear transmission mount for the Manual? the front I see at turbo tech, but where is there a website to get the rear mount? Pretty much the only things I need to actually buy to do my swap (I have a full donor car 96 2.4/speed sunfire going into a 98 2.2/auto 3spd sunfire)
