ok all. I have a question for ayone who has access to the schematics. I need to know if the C100 main connector is the same between the 1996 Pontiac sunfire with the 2.4L 5 speed, and the 1998 Pontiac sunfire with the 2.2/auto. I need to know if the pinouts are the same. Reason being is if I can just replace the front harness for the car along with the engine/trans that would be nice.
Also, where is the BCM in these cars? and can you swap those out between those years?
Lastly. Is the cluster swapable between the two years?
I am looking at getting the 2.4/5 speed swap done in my 98 from a donor 96. (look like identical cars) . If things can plug and play so to speak that would be awesome. Will be swapping the steering wheel as well, as everything in the engine bay of the 96 is going to go into the 98 (this includes the cruise and the ABS, since the ABS in the 96 worked flawlessly and the 98 ABS is screwed.
Is there anything else that anyone may know of that would need to be swapped as well?
How about the axels? any surprises there I should know betwen the two?
I am hoping to be able to do the pull and install in a weekend. the easier it is to plug harnesses together the more happy I will be. The only difference between the two that I can see is the drivetrain and that the 96 has cruise. other than that everything is the same.
(Apparently you have to swap BCM, Cluster, ECM, and Cluster. else you have to reprogram it so the stupid thing will start. It has to learn all the codes for the 4 things. Pain in the ass if you ask me.)
Any help would be greatly thanked. Like I said. I have a full donor car for the swap, so I will have all the parts. just do not want to have to swap things that do not really need it in order to save time, and sanity.
The pinouts are the same for most of the C100's... it gets dicey when you cross from the 99 model year to 00, but other than that it's the same except for options where they're not installed on the cars... ie. automatic won't have the clutch switch fed through to the cabin where the manual does, for the safety switch on the auto is on the trans case so there's no point in it going to the cabin. So, you're going to have to add that for a manual swap, or not use the safety switch. Up to you. The body harness would be the same on a manual vs. an automatic car.. it's the dash harness that will be slightly different. But the body harness is where the power options are... windows, locks, etc.
There is no BCM pre-2000. There is a convenience center though, and it's on the passenger side under the dash against the A-pillar.
The ABS module on a 95-99 car is on the driver's side under the dash, against the A-pillar.
The big thing you're going to have to do is the mount for the transmission... there's one plate in the middle for the automatic, and two mounts on the sides for the manual. You need to cut off the plate and weld in the two brackets for the manual swap. There are tons of posts on those kinds of swaps around the JBO...
For the manual? Is it really that different on the brackets? I have a full donor car, Seems odd that you would have to weld in new parts to fit the manual over the auto. But then again, I am used to rearwheel drive applications.. and those all mount the same way.
