i just wanted to know if there is a thread about this? and if so where? im doing a 3800 into a 97 2.2 already, but my girl want her DD to be more ballsy. since you cant do much to these motors i figured i could swap in a 2.0 S/C motor from an ion redline or cobalt. i just need input on this, i probably wont start till im done with the 3800, but curious. thanks
Just buy one with an eco in it and s/c it.

my girlfriend has a car already....im trrying to make hers faster. i dont want to buy another car. lol
Just sell hers then. And buy one with an eco.
IMO, It's not worth it to swap motors if you can buy one with it cheaper than you could build it.
I'm doing a 5 speed swap on my '96. But I got the whole donor car for $350. So unless you can find the parts cheap, I would just buy one. Saves some money in the long run.
a friend of mine wrecked his 06' redline and he said he would sell engine and trans to me for $500. and im not sure if the mounts are the same. she wont get rid of her car for ANYTHING.....TRUST ME. LOL that is her baby, 267,788 miles so far and the only things changed were the alternator and rack(recalled).
EVERYTHING is different. basically, you'd rip all the wiring, lines, fluid tanks, chassis, suspension, EVERYTHING out of the j, do the same for the redline, and end up with two undriveable cars.

well that ends that project... lol thanks guys
ya that is what i wanted to shoot for but i figured a buddy had the 2.0 S/C for cheap. i know that we have beat a few z24's and a couple quad four grand am gt's with her car and the only mods she has are shaved head, intake, header back exhaust, carbon fiber hood and its lowered.....and of course the original 277,000 mile engine and tranny. but i found more mods you can do to a 2.4. idk when im done with the 3800 i'll find something to do once boredom hits again. lol
I only know of one person who actually attempted the LSJ swap into a Cavalier... and they never finished the swap. Basically, it doesn't fit. The transmission is too big for the J-car frame rails. You'd have to tub it..
The thread is on Quad4Forums if you feel so inclined to look it up.
Is there any reason the J eco trans wont work?

I just looked at the thread, not sure why he chopped the rail on the passenger side, if anything he should have trimmed the driver side near the F35. All eco engines are the same, all he had to do was get an L61 upper motor mount boss(bolts to the block), the upper motor mount itself, an L61 pan and the lower mount.. that would have set the engine in place then he shoulda worried about the trans fitment, but I digress...

the F35 has better gearing, but the F23 may require the spacer (already installed inbetween the LSJ/ F35)to work with the LSJ's clutch.. the flywheels are different bolt patterns and have completely different clutches. You can't mix and match them, if its an LSJ.. you need an LSJ clutch, if its an L61 you need an L61 clutch.
I believe you need the spacer with the LSJ engine for the F23 trans to work, but I haven't tested that yet... will know soon enough.
but to the OP: the swap isn't worth your time, gonna be a hell of a lot of work.. much easier job on a 2000+ car, but thats only in terms of mechanical stuff. electronically, it'd still be a nightmare.
