before i get flamed i know i should search, but i will be using my cellphone for web service for awhile and its really not easy to just go surf the web browsing article upon article.... So ile just throw it up here cuz maybe someone will know. Actually im positive someone here will know. my 2.2 ohv is in good running condition. My 2200 ohv however has a warped head. I know gm made several changes to the engine from 97 model to 98 and i read up on that but what i dont know is, is the core of the head the same? I can obviously tell the valve covers are diferent and intake mani is diferent too. But if the block is the same, which correct me if im wrong, it is the same??? the head bolt pattern looks the same. So maybe if i could swap the head in from the 2.2 and tap some new bolts for the valve cover in would it still work? Im just checking cuz id like to put the good head into the 2200 cuz my 95 isnt obd2 its gms half year stupid bull@!#$ thats not worth a @!#$. so my other option is to just swap the regular 2.2 in where the 2200 sits. but then i wouldnt have the obd2 electronics cuz id need the wiring harnesse from the 2.2 correct? unless the electronics are the same... but cuz the 2200 has diferent injectors im not sure the wiring harnesse would be the same nor would the ecu... Someone please straighten me out here i dunno what to do! thanks, ryan
You cant drop an older head onto a 2200 motor, as far as Ive found... The compression would be too high, other than that Im not sure the differences..
You should be able to find a cheap 2200 head used to fix your motor. I have one laying around my garage I bought for $60.
Search the classifieds, and your region in the regional forums... also check car-part.com and you should get a head no problem
I would sell you mine, but Im saving it for a nasty porting job in about a month.

2.2L head + 2200 pistons = super high compression. The actual blocks are the same, and the rods and lifters, but that's about where it ends. Just head to a u-pull-it and grab a head off a car that got rear-ended.
Oh yeah, I'd love a '95 sedan... no OBDII emissions testing
It's the only reason I'd ever ditch my '96.

im thinking about putting the old 2.2 in place of the 2200 instead... Im thinking i can still tune it with msd and a fmu, but i dont believe anyone makes bigger injectors for it? Anyone know? also my code scanner doesnt work and i dont believe hpt would either. i think thats the only negitaves i can think of... Acording to wiki it has 5 more factory hp. And i know it has no emissions stuff. Only one o2 sensor, no eledtronic egr. Plus the fact that its running and driving and i dont even know what more is wrong with the 2200 cuz i bought it torn apart... Anyones thoughts???
what year is this 2.2? if it's a 97, then HPT will work. I have it done to mine to get it to run better with better fuel efficiency.
the 2.2 is a 95 without obd2
ok, you can still tune it being the OBD 1 IIRC. check the tuning part of the board. there is something using a chip or something or other.
orly?! I thought hpt wasnt compatable with my car, ...i never really checked into it cuz i just assumed but thats deffinately cool. So ile prolly end up swapping it into my sunfire. Thanks for the info man. and i think i found a place that sells injectors. Import performance parts. Anyone ever bought anything from them? are they good or does anyone know of another place that sells bigger injectors for the early 2.2ohv? I will be runnging 5lbs but eventually want to get up higher, Over time on a bulilt and tuned motor of course
not HPT, another program.
for the injector thing, you will have to do the top feed conversion.
You could use an ostrich II and a wideband to tune. allows you to tune like hp tuners without the hassle of burning chips.
