Quick V6 question
Friday, February 20, 2009 6:19 PM
I've done a lot of reading and I know it entails a lot of work but I think I found a deal I can't refuse on an engine, I was just wondering what you guys think from the ad, and I want to make 100% sure that this is the right 3400, I'm 95% sure, but I just want some reassurance. I have a 97 sunfire with a 2.2 OHV, so the tranny should match right up to this:

i wouldn't buy it concidering every picture posted the motor is wrapped up whats hidden???? beside you need stuf like power steering pump, lines all that good stuff your better to get a donor car pull the stuff you need out. the price of that engine plus shipping will cost you more then a donor car

i paid 700CDN for my 3800SC donor car the wrecker dropped it off friday i pulled the motor saturday they came and got it monday

i wouldn't use your 97 trans i would swap it out for the 00-02 2200 trans, do a search for what involved but your trans you have is weak

Well I wouldnt have to pay shipping - it is less than 2 hrs from my house, I'd just go and get it. As far as it being wrapped - it says its just because there is no manifold, but I did originally find that suspicious. You do have a good point with the lines and stuff though. As far as Im concerned $700 CDN is a sweet deal for the entire car.

Now that you mention it, it makes sense that the tranny isnt that great. I had to have mine replaced like 2-3 months after buying the car. Thanks for the input.

LKQ is a very reputable company. It's a nationwide salvage company. That's where I got my engine. I deal with them fairly often. If you message them, I'm sure they'll uncover it and take better pics.

That is the right engine, and it's fairly low mileage. I'd ask them how much they want for the PS pump, alternator, and AC compressor if you want it. They might cut you a decent deal if you're getting the engine, too.

Yes it'll bolt up. Just need to have the 2.2 flywheel on the 3400.

For some reason, I just looked at that again, and I realized it's got no intake manifold. Not really that great of a deal considering that. Who knows what other little parts you'll end up replacing. I'm sure it's got no injectors, injector harness (usually stays with the motor). You'll have too much stuff to hunt down, and probably end up spending more than you can score a complete engine for.

i would look for the donor car that way you have all the little stuff that made my swap easy its stuff like power steering lines, heater hoses stuff like that. i had to buy a new rad hose because the donor car 1 was nasty
