few sunfire problems
Saturday, July 05, 2008 9:43 PM
hey guys i have a few questions about my car,its a 96 sunfire 2-door.std

my exhaust is raspy as hell and i dont know why .. i baught a magnaflow muffler and a magnaflow cat and its not loud but raspy .. i hate it .. i want a loud but deep sound to it.
i baught a obx header but the rest of the pipeing is stock so if i put on my header .. will it sound even worst ? or the sound i am looking for? i might have to buy a resanator and remove that small cat .

how do you know if a wheel bearing is gone in your car? i have a rumble in my car but no clue which one or ones is gone

thats all i can think of right now .

please help.

i have a 2200 and i had a fart can and got rid of my cat and it sounded like @!#$....i took it of and put a flowmaster with a resonater after it and that help it go deeper in tone ...after that i put my header on and that made it sound deep and mean as hell!!! i love the sound she makes now......

what size is stock pipeing ? i just ordered a magnaflow fart can style muffler and i gotta go the canadian tire and get a cherry bomb resanator and take off that small cat and put that resanator in place .. should sound deep i guess if not then i do what you told me . on my old 95 sunfire gtx i had a apc turmator fart can and it souneded deep and loved the sound to it .. so i figured i get a magnaflow fart can style muffler and it will be the same i guess .. actually a guy from the j-body site called Casey Burnett is selling one .. so i would say thats what i am getting.

doesn't mean you should do it, it's a PITA.

11. Do not cross post. Unless it is an official site announcement, cross posting, or posting the same message in more then one forum is NOT welcome.

not welcome meaning don't do it, duh.

My 03 Ecotec has 2.25 piping from the header back, high flow cat, 18" Magnaflow resenator, all out to a flowmaster 40 series. I think it sounds tits. Not raspy at all, nice and deep. I'll be putting a header on it soon, so it should get that much better

fail. the exhaust is the same for all engines 95-05, just the downpipes and rear hangers changed. of course, the exception being the SFGT dual exhaust which was a joke. all he piping is 1 7/ OD. you really need to learn before you go talking like you know.

That is wrong, all 3rd gen j-bodys had the same piping, except for the sunfire gt, and even then it was the same diameter. All the piping is 1-7/8 inches. A 2 inch diameter is what you need for a muffler.

wow, real original. never heard that one before. i'm sorry if you take offense to your own lack of knowledge, but surely it seems you need to learn more about the platform when you make uneducated responses like the one above.

i have a header and a axle back that i made my self and the od is 2.25" i dont know if you are talking about id. or od. but 2.25" id. fits perfect on the out side of stock pipe on a 2001 cavalier..........grab a tap and check it 4 your selfs........i have a flowmaster, cat and a resonater that has the id. of 2.25" and it slides rite on ...........if he gets 2.25" id. he dosnt have 2 use cuplings and have more joint that can leak........maybe you are the dumb ass!!!

ok. just because i like to keep my my stock parts, just went outside, and measured all my stock (read as it came off the assembly line), and its 1 7/8. so, until somebody else who's actually done any research on the subject, you're still wrong. as well, go to any auto parts store that sells pre-bent oem replacement exhaust, and guess what? its 1 7/8. hey, guess what i found:

see where at the end it says 2" 35335? yeah, thats a clamp buddy. and, because it's a 2" clamp, them means (you guessed it) its 1 7/8 ID pipe. next time, know you're right before you go spouting misinformation.
