hey my uncle just bought a 2000 cavalier 2.2 auto. when he starts it the thing will run for a sec then stall and then when he starts it the second time it runs fine.
he was thinkin of the fuel pump because he can't really here it pressurize when he turns the key on. What do you guys think ?
That could be it. Does he let it prime and stop before he starts the engine? Just turn the ignition on, but don't start the engine, after 3-5 seconds start the engine. If it doesnt start, repeat that without starting the engine, turn it off, and try it again this time start the engine. Sounds like maybe a clogged fuel filter, and its and not building enough pressure the first time it primed.
sounds like the theft system kicking in. Is the theft light flashing when the car stalls? If so do a search on here for passlock code relearn.

I don't think Passlock would allow it to start at all, nevertheless on the second try. I'm with Steve on the clogged fuel filter.
Hard to say for sure without pressure testing the fuel rail to see what's getting there. Try the filter first, it's a cheap and easy (well... easier on the 2000+ cars than the 95-99 ones), and it's good maintenance.
