It would helped if I had this in the right forum to begin with
Are there any major differences between the 98 and 99 2.4l block?
Physically looking at the two, I do see a difference.. The 98 takes a different knock sensor than the 99(I THINK).. The coolant hole for the thermostat housing in the back of the block is different(looking inside the hole) (triangle gasket)...
As far as specs, is there a difference between the two?

The pistons are different one is dished the other is flat.
The knock sensor is the main difference.
Just use all your 99 sensors on the 98, and you will be fine...other than the knock sensor.
I might end up putting a 97-98 in my 99.
96-98 and 99-02 have different heads....at least the casting are different P/N.

Your right Mike, the main thing is the knock and the head... I just sat my 99 HG on the 98 block and the water jackets are wayy different..
