I was just wondering if a Quad-4 engine, is that from the second generation cavis or is that from 95? Would be able to be swapped into a 99 cavalier. I ask because the engine would be given to me for free, so if I can do it, I can sell my cavilier with the engine for a little more than it is right now.
Even with it being free...my car has a blown rod right now, so it doesn't move..this would make it move
SO WHATS FASTER THE 2.4 TWIN CAM OR THE QUAD 4?
Depends. The Quad4 HO and W41 engines put out more power than the 2.4. The 95 2.3 does not. If you plan on going to a 95 2.3, I would say scrap the idea and just stick with the 2.4.

Not to mention you'd also have to do a transmission swap.

Yes, but if you plan on swapping it in, I hope you have access to a welder, and that you're good with wiring, because the entire engine harness and dash harness will have to be changed out.
shifted whats wrong with you?
i dont know what engine he has but if he has a 2.4 in it right now then he will NOT need another transmission...the quad will bolt right up to any transmission the 2.4 did....welder? what for? the quad engine bolts up in ANY 3rd gen cavy with no welding..dash harness? i doubt it....only thing i would see him needing is the engine bay harness and pcm.....and yes the quad CAME in a cav in 95 but it also came in other cars before then..some quads made more power too...some will work with your power steering, some will not.....what year engine is it that your getting??? and what engine is it thats in the car now?? that would help with an answer....
It is a 99 cavalier Z24 with a blown rod in the engine, its a 95 Quad 4 from a cavalier. Its free so if I could swap out it would make it worth it, because then I could sell the car as a movable entity. I mean, really, wouldn't it be worth it to someone with a engine in it, completely possible to drive? I hope to put the engine in, and maybe ask for the assistance of someone from this site to help with the install, obviously money would be involved. I just need ideas on what I would need from the car to make this happen. Thanks for all the help
ok...the engine itself is going to bolt in just the same..shouldnt be any problems there...and it MAY even wire up the same..ill have to check on that..i know its VERY similar...you will still be able to use power steering all the same too...the trick is the cam position sensor..i think only the AUTOs in 95 had the sensor for it...but your 99 pcm uses it so if you dont have it pluged in it MIGHT put a CEL..might wanna look into that..if the 95 quad engine has the cam sensor then no biggy....
Now its a matter of getting it swapped out, I wonder if someone would be willing to help me with this?
EASIEST way is tranny and engine both out the bottom..if you cant do that then i suggest taking the tranny out the bottom then lifting the engine out the top...others do it differnt ways though
When I pulled my eco I got it on the rig, undid the engine mounts and trans mounts then tilted it towards the trans end while lifting it out.
If you can find someone who's already done it it will go much faster.
