ok i had posted a thread awhile back for my 96 cavalier 2.2L ohv and i own a procomp tach with a adjustable rpm and a recall with a shift light and no one can figure out why mine is not working. i have the correct wired hooked up to my icm from a autometer tach adaptor. i have a good connection to a ground and the main tach wire to the autometer adaptor and a posative wire from my start switch to the posative on my tach and all it does is flicker. any suggestions would be great since this thing had been pissing me off for a bit now.

Did you scratch the paint down to bare metal for the ground(You say you have a good ground but you'd be surprised the number of times I've seen people forget)? And have you tried switching the two connections on the pink wire?

Those are the only possibilities I can think of.

why do people install a tach that they only use about 1/2 the range of? im not impressed when i think about the 6250 redline of the ln2, and how itlooks on an 11k tach. anyway:

cut the red wire to the icm.
pink wire w/o stripe -- splice into red wire, on the side thats not from the icm.
pink wire w/ stripe -- goes to the red wire going directly to the icm.
red wire -- constant power source
black wire -- ground
grey wire -- tach signal.

also, get a more sensible tach. 5" tachs are gay even in completely gutted race cars.
