Basically the story is that i crash my car a 00 cavalier z24 but the motor is fine. I been offered a 98 z24 cavalier with all except a motor. I don't know If this been ask, I have search for the day in this site but haven't find anything. Can I put my motor from my 00 cavalier 2.4l in the 98 z24 cavalier without any problems whatsoever or do I have to do some modifications. Let me know any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
From what I understand, the harnesses aren't compatible...

they are diffrent. ecu's as well.
yep different.
Maybe you should use the 98 for parts to fix your 00.
Or else swap over every wire and computer, module , cluster, airbags.. and so on. along with the engine and trans, Kind of not really worth it.

It really depends how much the motorless car is actually missing. If it's missing only the engine itself and none of the electrical system, save for sensors and such directly attached to the engine, then just because the PCMs are incompatible doesn't mean the swap can't be done, and even though the '98 PCM is different, it was still made to run the same engine. so it's more than probable that you can swap just your physical motor into the other car, use the complete harness from the 98 to avoid having to swap it, and it will run. The only thing you have to know, and this has been discussed before, is if you have high or low impedence injectors. Everything else should plug in.
^^ the 98 will also have a EGR valve where the 00 will not so you would have to add that aswell
Its really not that bad at all.
If the car comes with a tranny, you are fine. You will need a 95-99 flywheel and clutch. You will have a check engine light because you wont have an EGR. You will have to rewire the knock sensor since 00+ has a 2 wire sensor and 96-99 has a 1 wire sensor.
I THINK the 00+ o2 sensor is different, so you will need to use a 96-99 one aswell.
Well the motorless car (if you can call it that) that I been offered have everything even the motor and transmission the problem with that car that the crankshaft is broken. But since I have a working motor I thought get the old motor out and put mine in there. But for what I have read is not a simple motor swap right??
^^ no it IS a simple engine swap people are misinforming you.
Take the 00+ Motor out. take the 98 motor out
Take the parts off of the 00+ that are different from the 98 motor and exchange them. then re install the new motor.
I dont know if is to much problem but can some tell me or point me in the right direction which are the part that I need to change between the motors so when I do the swap I dont find any problem!!! thanks!!
take the EGR off of the old motor put it on the newer motor
take off the fuel rail from the older motor install the older motors fuel rail and injectors
change the knock sensor to the older one like SunfireGTP said
change the clutch, flywheel to the older stuff
But if is automatic. Just install the old automatic transmission right? Not so difficult!! Thanks for the help!!
