Easy performance for 2200 Engine.
Sunday, February 10, 2008 12:05 PM
Can anyone give me some advice on some easy performance options for the 2200 engine from a 2002 sunfire? Don't have a lot of money yet to get a lot of expensive stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

best thing is leave it as is, and then save till you can afford to do things right the first time, cheap stuff can cost more in the long run when you end up taking it out for the part you relly wanted in the first place

yep thats what I did, I have a 53k 2200 paper weight on the floor in my garage now.
V-6 in the car, thats the cheapest bang for the buck if you can do some of the work yourself.

horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.

some one just asked me about mine, its for sale. Your not going to find a good harness, they have to be hacked to bits in order to do the swap. My trans is missing the side cover cause i used it in the swap, 2001 , 50 something K miles, cnnt remember exact miles. all of the accessories on the engine, trans is still bolted up, no down pipe but the manifold is there.
but you gotta come to ohio to fetch it.

well what i want to start doing is a 2200 build. I currently have a 2200 cavalier 2002, and i want to be able to drive the car as im building the motor, and then swap them out over the weekend. so the harness isnt important and neither is the trans. is it an auto trans or maual. also how much are you looking for it? thanx

"easy", "performance", and "2200" should never be used in the same sentence.

Yea i agree with everyone 2200 is not a cheap car to make fast its just not designed to be fast. i started stock and ran 17.89 in the 1/4
put a header and full exhaust and an intake, prothane tranny and motor mounts, 195-60-14's and im running 15.9 at 84 mph i spent about 200 bucks for all my mods. ohh and an exedy stage 1 clutch kit. which doesnt make it faster just better clutch grip.

Easy and cheap.........get a spare head and learn how to port and polish...otherwise your going to spend some money....my 01 ran 17.2 stock when i got it on a 90 degree day....I have yet to go back to the track to see what it can do now......Do some searching there are some things you can do on the cheap but little power will be gained from them. like rocker swaps and the throttle body off a 2.3 quad.

You do realize that there is a difference between being good for 350-375HP and giving it to you without any other modifications, right?

mitchell martinez- You got alot of reaserch to do there buddy... ..no way a stock rotating assembly could take the 350-375 power claim without bending rods and shattering ringlands. What would you do about fueling issues, you would have to do the side feed conversion, and get a new pump. That is just the tip of the iceburg as well....

Take some time away from ebay, most of the stuff is garbage take the time to read up, and remember you normally get what you pay for....I hope that was a joke toward the op.
