the backing of my air bag feels like it is coming apart from the steering wheel, i mentioned it before but it seems to have gone unnoticed . I was just curious as to whether that was normal for our cars or if it was something to be concerned with.

I'd be careful. You could be getting into your car oneday and lean to close to the sterring wheel and have it go off... and kill you.I would take it to a dealer or a garage and have it looked at.This could cause you some serious pain.

You could atleast disonnect it, or pull the fuse for it so it won't be in danger of goig off.

Brad, Good Point i think that was the extent of my question per say was whether or not it peeling away/seperating from the wheel could cause it to deploy prematurely and henceforth whether it would be worth it to replace the air bag. My guess is replacing an airbag can be fairly expensive, the person i talked to said if our cars are parked in the sun ie direct sunlight etc that can cause it to start peeling away as well.

but being an 04, you could potentially freak out on them and say "This car isn't even 5 years old and this is already happening???"

Its not going to blow unless you put 12v to the airbag wires, You can cut the entire bag out of the wheel with a razor knife and nothing is going to happen.

And I have never seen a person fined for a non working bag. ??? I have had vehicles inspected by a state trooper with no bags in the holes at all and he didnt even say booooo.

Sounds like the heat got it. I've seen some older cars do that, not only cavs. Nothing to worry about unless the extra gap created bugs you.

Yeah True Brad, No Joe the gap created doesn't bother me as such just wonder if the gap is going to grow bigger and continue to peel away from the wheel and if there are some that have peeled away big time. If there's no immediate chance of the airbag itself prematurely deploying i'll probably just ignore it, the red airbag light in the dash comes on and flashes when i start the car anyway so either way the airbag is working. My guess would be the heat got it too though this is the first time this has happened to me.

The gap shouldnt get very big, the bag cover is molded around the edge and sandwitched between a metal strip and the housing, then is rivited. It wont come off with out lots of drilling and prying at it.

I didnt know canada wants bags in. Probably since they are made there they want to keep people employed , so you gotta have em. Just a funny,
Any way , that sucks, you cant even put a fancy steering wheel on up there.

Well you can, but if you have to get inspected you'll most likely fail. If you got pulled over by the police i dont think they would care, here anyways.

we can put aftermarket steering wheels in, but if insurance company finds out, say good bye to them. they'll be gone faster than a skinny guy's anal verginity in a jail cell.
