i have a 96 sunfire with a 5 speed with the 2.2 ohv motor it has a intake and 2.5 exhaust and my friend has a 97 sunfire with the same motor with a 5 speed he has msd coils cai densos plugs he said that his car will eat mine up i wanted to no how close of a race would it be and they both are 2 doors
Put on your flamesuit man. This is not a racing forum. Take it to the track and then let us know. This thread will be locked by the end of the day...
we dont race on the street any ways it snowing here in new york i just wont to no if it would be a close race or not if i need to put more on mine
well to honestly put it neither will win.......that cardboard box with the lawn mower next to you is gonna win(you are both driving 2.2ohvs)........the cardboardbox has the same power but its a lot lighter
^^^^^ exactly. Even if one of those cars made more p-ower than the other, it would be only by a couple HP at best. Now...if one of you is running stock 15 inch wheels, and say the other has chrome 18's, that might make a difference, ditto for huge stereo systems. Too many people think that speed is all in the engine, but stuff like fat rims and systems add big weight, and that hurts performance. Do you know why no one ever races thier 400hp show car? its because all the 800lbs of "show" crap such as TV's, subs, amps , 19's, etc add so much weight the car is as slow or slower than stock.
As for your situation...the driver that gets the best launch and shifts the cleanest will most likely win.

comments like that are un-called for >.>
Should be a drivers race. Just get some practice on your launch and you should smoke him. With a good launch you should get low 16's. Get a p&P and some oversized valves and you'll be in the 15's with a decent launch.

i doubt he'll hit low 16s with a 2.2 ohv and those mods. those things are dogs, even with the stick shift. i just got rid of my 99 2.2 DD 5 sp. wow, that thing had NO BALLS at all. with an intake and exhaust (prob just from cat back, with nothing done to the cat or a header) he'll be lucky to hit low 17s. youve gotta figure....its a 12 year old car that ran mid 17s off the dealership floor.
like most people have said, its a drivers race. either of you would be lucky you have an extra few HP from your mods so you are still both about the same.
coming back in 2008...
with an intake and "accidently" running strait pipe my best was a 17.4 flat, not on my best launch. my best launch got me a 17.6 or something. with a p&p and the things steve white said, you may hit at best mid-high 16's.
I love how the guy asks a question and gets flamed for having a 2.2ohv and accused of being a street racer. He didn't ask your opinions about the ohv motors, he asked for opinions on who we think would win a race between him and his friend. It would have been a whole different story if he came here asking who we thought would win a street race between him and say a new corvette.
