Rear Defogger, convert

Hey everyone...I bought a 98 Sunfire convert about 3 weeks ago. Tonight I needed to use the rear defog. it didn't work. The light on the dash goes on when I push the button, but the elements aren't doing their job. I'm assuming a wire is broken somewhere. Any ideas? I really don't want to take it to the stealership. It's deep into winter here, and it would be nice to be able to see out the back! Thanks in advance.

Got a voltmeter? Check for voltage at the rear tabs.... either side of the window. Make sure there's wires going to both sides.. one side should have +12V referenced to ground, the other should have continuity to ground. If that's OK, then the grids are all damaged.

If there's no voltage there... then the next best place to check up the line is behind the carpet on the driver's side A-pillar, right by the hood release latch. There's a couple of connectors there, one is bright green with 5 or 6 wires in it. The thick black one is the feed to the rear defog grid... it's common for the wire to burn up in the connector. You can jump it, or repair it... if that's the problem.

Other than that... there's lots of things to check, but those are the two most common. Start with those.
