i have a 2004 cavalier ls 4 door sedan 2.2 eco 4 speed auto with approximately 95,000 miles as of lately the service light in the dash has been coming on intermittently, but the second i turn the engine off when i start it back up the light is gone as if it has reset itself. What i am wondering is if it's something that warrants having checked out or if i should just ignore it since it only happens intermittently and i haven't broken down yet. I keep up on the oil changes, tranny flushes, power steering flushes etc.
If its the one that looks like a wrench, it could be something non-engine related (doing the "flash your high-beams 10 or so times to turn off the DRL's is an example of something that will trip that indicator).
Hard to tell without anything other than the light coming on to go by
wait a second you can flash your high beams 10 or more times and it will shut off the DRL's? im sure you would have to do it everytime, but thats cool sh!t if it works
Kardain yeah that's the one the little sunshiny yellow light with the picture of the wrench, i'm sure it probably is nothing just that i read in the owners manual that that light never comes on unless the computer finds a problem somewhere on the car so i wasn't sure what to make of it.

Yep. Resets itself when the car is turned off though.
Best I can find in the service manual:
Quote:
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The IPC illuminates the service vehicle soon indicator during any of the following conditions:
The BCM detects a Passlock failure. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC requesting illumination.
The BCM detects a malfunction in the passive trunk release system. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC requesting illumination.
The BCM detects a failure in the traction control system. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC requesting illumination.
The IPC detects a mismatch between its part number and the vehicle platform configuration sent by the BCM via a class 2 message.
And, of course, the DRL trick
Thanks for the help Kardain, as for the drl trick is that a permanent trick or do u have to do it everytime you start the car. would be nice if it was permanent thing is though if in theory the trick was permanent then would your headlights at night work just like they normally do, and then when your headlights weren;t on during the day there would still be no drl's.
should just take 10, but sometimes a couple extra depending...
