are the wheel sensors optical magenetic or both depending on the car maker, im just curious if they can get fouled by road grime after 100k plus
do they need a cleaning once in a while?
I'm pretty sure they're hall-effect sensors.
And yes, road grime can get in there and wipe a reading out bad enough to make the ABS system turn off. Best bet, if your ABS isnt running, code scan that monster and see what it says. I'm pretty sure ABS codes will show up on a scanner.
No optical sensors on the market as far as I know, Im sure that type would be very high maintenance. They are magnetic, Could be classified as a hall effect sensor, but as a not so fancy version. sometimes brake dust or dirt/iron particles stick to the magnet, but normally isnt the cause of a code or problem. Broken wires are the most common, especially in the front. At times the stator ring on the axle may split causing a code also.
