New Guy Here

Hey just wanted to introduce my self on this forum. My name is Kevin and i m 17. I have been working on cars since i was born. My first "project car" was a yugo. My brother and i swapped in a 1.5L Fiat X19 motor and topped it off with a Yugo 1.1 head. This gave us over 10.5:1 compression. We also lowered the car, and did some other cool stuff. on it. I tend to like unliked cars and so i now have a cavalier for my next project car. Its is a 1998 Cavalier LS with the 2.2 in it and a 5 speed. Its a two door and its light blue and faded plastic n the outside. Bought the car last wednesday, and stripped it out almost completetly to clean it. (PO smoked and had a dog and NEVER CLEANED ANYTHING EVER)

I am entering the Grassroots Motorsports $2007 Challenge with this car. So everything that i do must be under $2007.

My plans are as follows:
-install 3.5 motor from 04-05 malibu
-port and polish intake exhaust...open it up a bit.
-nitrous if i can find it cheap
-I plan on lowering the car. (springs and struts, etc.)
-more cleaning.

If anyone has any input im ready to hear it.
If anyone has any suspension stuff for sale cheap, lemme know.
If you think im stupid for doing this....tough, but i hope you like it when its done.

Thanks for a cool website.

K

You should just do a 3.8 instead depending on the price difference or ecotec, just some other suggestions??

Sitck with the 60 degree engines. They have plenty of potential, and they are smoother. The 3.8 is odd-firing (not even intervals between cylinder firing). The 3500 is a killer motor, but I have to ask, since you need to keep it within $2K, and you're planning on spending a huge chunk of that on the motor, what's your plan for springs/struts?

BTW, welcome to JBO.

It would be easier for you to interface computers if you were to go with the 3400 V6. At that point, if you really want, you can swap the head + upper/lower intakes from the 3500 V6.

Like said above that engine is gonna cost you a lot of money. The 3400 would be a much cheaper alternative, and it comes in a large number of vehicles, so you should be able to find one just about anywhere.

This was the plan.

Use the 3.5 motor and run it with a 3.1L MPFI harness. use 3.1 accesories and a custom crank trigger. Also id use a 2.3L quad 4 throttle body.

The guy that im setting this up with said hes done it befire fairly cheap. I can get a 3.5 for about $450 sooo.....

Im planning on KYB AGX suspension with some springs. Used of course.

any other thoughts??
