Ok, what would you choose? (I know its my decision, but I would like to see what others would pick)
2003 Cavalier - Silver
100 000 km's
Ecotec 2.2
Bare Bones - no air, no sunroof, no power, no cd.....
Hubcaps
Or...
2000 Cavalier Z24 - Black
130 000 km's
2.4 L
Sunroof, CD, Air, etc.....
Decent Allow Rims
- probably close to a grand cheaper ($3500 or so...)
I'm leaning towards the Z24. I would love to have the Ecotec, but I also like having a sunroof. Air, CD, and the power group are nice for resale as well. The only problem is that the Z24 is almost 8 hours away, whereas the 2003 is only 3 hours away. Decisions...
i have always had regrets when i do for the bare bone car. or maybe keep shopping, 3rd gens are easy to come by
That's what I was thinking. It's such a hard decision though. I would love to have the Ecotec, but I'd have to sacrifice the sunroof. I never use air anyway, and I could stick in a new headunit. Bah... The 2003 is a sweet deal, but it will cost me more initially to make it look half decent. Plus it is much much closer. The Z24 is 8 hours away. Maybe I'll buy both.
if the z24 looks well cared for, i would get that. i havnt dealt with the 2.4 except in the early years of the engine.
i do recall it was one of the cleanest burning engines at the time it came out.
I have a 98z with the 2.4 and I would have to vote for the ECO,seems there is alot more aftermarket suport and silver is a good color

Thanks guys. After some more thought, and some photoshopping of what it could look like, I have decided to grab the 2003. I think it'll be better for me in the long run. It looks ugly now, but with some new lights and tint, it wont look too bad. I plan on supercharging it once I get some cash saved up. Anyway, Ill post some pics when its all said and done - hopefully.
Ecotec has more aftermarket support, the engine is quieter, and is more efficient in gas.

AC is questionable, but not having power isn't a bad thing. GM power window motors are prone to fail. I've replaced my driver front twice, passenger front once, and my passenger rear once already, in the 3 1/2 years i've owned my car. I would much rather have crank windows.
Sunroof and CD player you can always install later.
I do regret not getting the Sunfire that was at the dealership with the Sunroof, but then again, I like the placement of the Dome light. Thats probably the only thing I would change about my car if i could go back in time, was getting one with a sunroof. lol
