IT LIVES! :-)

Fired the V6 up today, and it runs beautiful. Smells a little rich, but I'm not sure if part of it is just that the engine has not run in over 2 years and needs to clear out a little.

I still have to wrap up the wiring and run it under the radiator and put the PCM in place, as well as run the exhaust, but it started up the first try with no problems.

Scared the crap out of my kids, even though I warned them, because it's got nothing but a down pipe right now.
Sounds mean as hell that way. I'll try to get a quick vid posted up later. Still trying to get the air out of the coolant passages right now, so I haven't let it run for more than a minute at a time, but damn it feels good to have life back in the Cav again.

Thanks.

OK, now it's trouble shooting time. I can not get my fan to come on without giving it voltage myself. If I'm correct, the green wire on the fan relay is the trigger, correct? I may just have a bad fan relay, but I figured I'd throw the question out there in case anyone has the answer.

The other issue, which is driving me nuts, is that I can't seem to shift my tranny. I first thought that I may have mixed up the cables and put them on the wrong post, but I have now tried it both ways, and the tranny just will not shift properly (I can pretty much move the shifter in any direction, and it won't lock into place). I had no problems with my tranny before, so I can't immagine what I could have done, since I didn't do anything with the tranny, I just pulled the engine and put another one in. Anyone else had this problem before?

your fan relay is probably done for. had it happen to me. swap your fuel relay w/ your fan relay, turn on the ignition and the a/c, and see if the fan comes on.

the pcm should ground the relay, do you have all your grounds conected-- also- do you have a scanner to be able to manually turn on the relay??

LMFAO. I can't believe how many times this comes up. Yes, the left front tire in my sig is reversed. I got my rims & tires online, and they showed up with 3 mounted for the right side of the car. I had to get it swapped around, but the pic in my sig is from the day I put them on the car.

The only wire I have coming from the relay that isn't hooked to anything is a green wire. I applied power to it and nothing happened. Are you telling me this should be grounded? I was thinking the PCM sent power to the relay, not ground. I'll have to check it out. At this point, if that was supposed to be grounded to activate the relay, I might have fried it anyway.

I still have a bunch of wiring to the PCM to do, such as all the A/C crap, and a couple of other small things, but everything to the engine is hooked up.

I think I know what the problem with the tranny might be, but I'm not going to be dealing with that for a few days. I'm done for today, and I'm heading out of town tomorrow to visit a friend, so it won't be until Monday or Tuesday to get back to it.

Also, I'm hoping I don't have an issue with my alternator, as I drained the battery during my multiple startups, and I have it charging now.

just to make it easy so I don't have to search, what pcm - year and make, are using the stock fuse/relay under the hood, -- what did you wire into it??

Here's the stats:

95 Cavalier
2002 Buick Century 3100
95 F-Body PCM
Factory J-body fuse/relay center

Mods to get it all together:
94-99 3100 injectors/injector harness
custom EGR adapter to use 94-95 EGR unit (same as 2nd gen J-body 3.1 EGR)
VATS (Passkey II) bypass module.

OK, I don't have a 95 j body wiring, but-- you should have 12+ to the #30 and #85 at the cooling fan relay from the 30amp fuse from the under hood fuse center. If you ground the green wire- #86 it should turn on (with the relay in place)-- this should be wired to the new pcm cooling fan relay circuit

I did some searching, couldn't find 95 wiring diagram-- but 93 firebird used b2 for the cooling fan, 91 camaro used ge8, 94-96 cutlass and ciera used gc3

i don't have that year diagrams either.

on near competion

if you are looking for some big ol split loom -- http://www.altex.com/catalog/html/Wire_Loom_188/product_3474.html

Don't use the split loom from electronics places. Get an automotive grade. The stuff they use for computers and entertainment centers is not able to handle the heat of being on the engine. I've seen people melt them and it makes a mess.

I figured out the alternator issue. DOH! I forgot to wire the 4 pin plug into the car, so the alternator wasn't charging. I charged my battery overnight, and I've got the wires tapped in where they need to be. That should solve the problem.

I still have to finish the exhaust (just a downpipe right now), tie up the wiring, run it under the radiator so I can put the ECU in place, figure out why the tranny is not shifting (I think I have a good idea why, and I might figure it out tonight), one power steering line, and go renew my plates, since I haven't had the car registered in two years.

Well, I solved the alternator problem, thanks to a little help from SHOoff, but I still can not figure out why my tranny is acting up. It worked perfectly before, but I can flop the shifter around as if the cables aren't even connected to the tranny. I popped off the cap where the cables hook up to, and it looks fine in there. I can't immagine what could have happened to a manual tranny just sitting. This is getting frustrating.

Can you switch gears on the tranny it self?

Yes, and now I can using the shifter.

Sometimes I miss the obvious.
I forgot to put the bracket back on the tranny that holds the cable housings, which had to be removed to access one of the bolts holding the tranny to the engine.
Once I did that, there was no problem. DOH!

Sorry. I have been just working on it, and haven't taken a minute to shoot a vid. I'll try to get one up today or tomorrow.

Alright, well I was going to take a video this evening, but one of two things is happening to stop me

Either the battery to my camera is junk and won't take a charge, or my camera is broken, but I charged the battery for a few hours, and the camera will not even turn on.

Tomorrow I'm off to my brother-in-law's shop to finish up the upper motor mount, as well as making a bunch of stainless steel exhaust flanges. I'm making the flange to match the manifold, so I can make a stainless downpipe, plus three bolt flanges that match the factory size for the cat-back. I'm putting flanges on both sides of the cat, unlike the factory where the cat is welded to the down pipe.

The gauge cluster is wired up. I just need to mount the controller and put the dash back in place. Once the dash is back together, and I figure out what's up with the camera, I'll get a vid of that. It's one of my favorite parts of the car.
