im having a problem/concern with my 2000 cav.
almost everytime i take my foot off the gas pedal, or am idling at a stopsign, I hear a ringing like you would hear in your ear, (after being hit in the head or getting dizzy) but much much louder.
any thoughts at all? this is a really annoying problem, i dont know whether to ignore it (kind of hard to do) or to just drop it all and replace a bunch of @!#$...\
i replaced my tensioner because i thought that was the problem, (needed replaced anyway)
the sound is coming from the same side, under the hood as where the tensioner is. im assuming its a pulley or belt of some kind. please help me out... im so annoyed with this problem.
Sounds like a definite drive belt problem, I'm not familiar with how the drive belt is setup on an OHV.
Do/answer a few things
1. Does it get louder with higher rpms?
2. Take the belt off and start the car and see if it goes away
3. - if it does go away by taking the belt off go through each pulley and try to spin them by hand, if you feel any wobble it could be bearings in the pulley assembly causing the noise, roughness while spinning would also indicate bad bearings.
Another way to troubleshoot it would be to ask if anything has been acting funny, Battery dying, A/C malfunctions, Overheating?

heres what i got for you
RPM doesnt matter (it just matters whether my foot is on or off the gas) - when my foot is off the gas, it rings until i rev, or put decent pressure on the pedal
i will try removing the belt when i have time,
the engine has been running much hotter recently. all around the time i put the front bumper of the RK sport kit on my car.
ill check those things out and reply later. thanks for the response and ideas.
ill bet your waterpump needs to be replaced. if thats what is making noise then it probably isnt pushing enough coolant through the motor to keeo it cool

none of the pulleys are wobbling.
still a question on the water pump.
i dont have the ability to remove the belt right now. so that will have to wait.
im going to try some serp. belt lubricator to see if thats stops the squeel.
i hope its not the water pump... how much would that be to replace? -just parts cost, i can get help from a buddy replacing it.
