Bubbling window molding - convertible vs coupe?
Wednesday, June 27, 2007 4:23 AM

I have a '98 Z24 convertible with the bubbling molding at the bottom of the side windows. I checked around for pricing, and it would appear that the one for the convertible is $300 whereas the one for the coupe is $60 (all CDN). After looking at a few on the street, the only difference I can find is that the one for the convertible is shiny to match the plastic thingie that goes around the roof at the back, whereas the one on the coupe is matte. They seem to be about the same size.

Does anyone know if they are, in fact, the same size? I can't seem to be able to find that information anywhere.

john, I think he is just talking about the door moulding but I could be wrong. I know the door moulding is around 60 for the coupe, I had to buy one a few months back for mine. I didnt reply as to if the coupe and conv were the same because i didnt know for sure.
I think he just wants to know if he can use the coupe door moulding on his vert. Aparently he already knows the finish is different.

carl, john is right about the rear moulding on the coupe, Its made on the glass and is stationary. Its made of stiff rubber, the door moulding is a flat finish to match the rubber finish.

I actually meant the molding on the door - as below:

The black strip at the base of the window (this is just a random pic off the net).

I haven't taken it apart yet, as I don't want to start removing stuff until I know I can replace it - but I was wondering if the one from a coupe would fit a convertible (the matte doesn't matter to me at this point, when I'm ready to repaint then I'll either have them painted also or get the proper ones).

Anyone know?

If I remember--- even the mirror is different, check ebay- I just saw someone selling complete convert doors- no reserve

The mirror is different because there's no front rail going up on the door - that doesn't affect the horizontal part (or shouldn't)

Nobody knows if this part if the same size? The dealership refuses to tell me (not realizing that because they are so helpful, I'm not buying my next vehicle from them)
