I'm debating on buying a 99 Sunfire that I have my eye on, and the only downfall is that is has an auto tranny. I have a 2000 sunfire with a manual tranny, that I was planning on swapping into the 99. Can this be done easily? I been told that the housings are different and the swap can't be done. I've also been told that it's just a matter of swapping the trannys and the computers. Can someone clarify this?
99 to 00 = different electronics completely. wiring is different, cluster is different, not to mention the tranny mounts are quite different as well.

I was also look at a 96 Sunfire GT, I can get it for cheap because the Gearbox is gone. Are the Gear box's from a 2000 Sunfire SE, and the 1996 Gt the same?
No, but you can swap the tranny over. But it requires welding in the new mounts for the newer transmission. The mounts are in different locations.
Also, the SE sunfire you'll have to make sure has the same engine. 2.2/2200 and 2.4 transmissions are never interchangable.
Anyone with ANY knowledge about J's knows that the GT came with the 2.4, and the SE with the 2200.

yes, i do, and for everyone else reading, its my 99 he's considering buying (haven't fully decided to sell it yet) And i explained to you before that you can't put your ecu in my car as the pre 2k wiring is completely different

It's not a worthwhile swap anyway. I believe the whole harness is different.
