Electrical Problem- help!
Friday, June 29, 2007 8:09 AM
Hey there guys,
3 weeks ago, I was driving and my battery light came on. I pulled over, checked the indicator on the actual battery and it was green. I started the car back up, and there was no light. 3 days ago, I was driving home, and my AC cut off. I heard it clicking on/off/on/off/on/off. It finally just quit. As it was clicking, I saw the lights on my dash blink/blink.

Today, I was driving to work and my radio cut out. Alpine 9856 with Sirius. No other stereo mods anymore for the past 7 months. I was like, crap, maybe a loose wire, short, or something like that. So, it came back on, went off, on/off/on/off. Anyway, after it came back on, then my lights on my dash started blinking, all of them.I pulled into, turned off the car, and let is sit for about 5 mins. I started it up again, and i heard "click/click/click/click/click"

I have the Big3 done. Ground from battery to car frame / power from battery to power of alternator / and ground of alternator to car frame.

Any help? I am thinking alternator as the indicator on the battery is still green.

Thanks,
Chris

Check the lead from battery/alternator positive to the underhood fuseblock. I had a similar problem, which always seemed to fix itself after I checked the fuses - and rocked the box enough to make contact.

The connector on the underside of the box is oddly done, and rather prone to corrosion. Check yours; if it's dirty, disconnect it, sand it, and reconnect your lead.

Dunno if this is what's wrong with yours, but it's worth a shot...

Too busy driving to mod...

Thanks,
I am going to have the car towed back to my apartment and I will take a look at things then.

So check the lead to the fuse block from the alternator? I checked the fuses themselves, and they all seemed ok, but you're actually talking about the line TO the fuse box?

Also, could doing the Big3 make the alternator die at a faster rate?

Thanks,
Chris
