Hi all, new to the block, though I'm having a problem with my 97 Sunfire. I'm running the 2.2L OHV, and I'm having issues with the clutch. When I put the car into gear and press the pedal all the way down to the floor, the clutch doesn't seem to fully disengage. The clutch rattles and vibrates while I'm in gear and the engine is running, and if I'm in first or second, it also tries to pull the car forward like it was an automatic. The transmission is also virtually impossible to shift while sitting still. I'm certain that it's not air in either the master or slave cylinders, since that changes the pedal feel, and the pedal still feels like it has since I had that particular issue fixed on this vehicle (about 10k miles ago). In consulting my father, we suspect it might be the clutch fork being bent, and that really seems like the only thing that comes to mind with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Check your clutch fluid it's probably low. The slave cylinder in these cars like to go bad and leak fluid out. When the fluid runs too low, you cant completely disengage the clutch. There's also no clutch fork. It's an internal slave cylinder. The slave cylinder/throwout bearing is what moves the clutch.
The fluid level did get a little low, and I filled it back up, though that didn't help the problem. Thanks, though.
Yeah... the slave cylinder is probably bad. The fluid didnt just disappear, it leaked out somewhere
Slave cylinder. Been there, done that.
If it got to low it might have sucked in air.Try bleeding it.
