98 2.2 will not stay running... need help!

ok my 98 2.2L cavalier is having a running issue. it will start and run for about 1-2 seconds and die. now if i leave the key in the "run" position and try again, no matter how long i wait it will not fire. but if i turn the key off and try to start it again it will start, run for 1-2 seconds and shut off.
i know i am getting fuel because my fuel pump is hooked to a separate switch on the dash that is mandatory in the rules for my track.
i also replaced the Fuel Pressure regulator and still i have the same issue.

i dissembled my ignition switch and now i have the switch hanging by the wires.
i can turn the motor over by turning the switch with a screwdriver. still it will not run longer then 1-2 seconds and i have to turn the switch off for the car to fire again.

can someone please help me? i've already missed a double points race on Friday and im running out of idea short of having the PCM tested

please help!

The anti-theft system is screwing up. Here's what ya do.

Remove the key first, if it's in there.
Turn the key on and leave it ON (DO NOT try to start) for 11 minutes. The theft light will either stop flashing, or go completely out.
Turn the key off, but dont take it out
Turn the key to start, and it should start.
Now you may remove the key.

Did that work?

Shooff, I thought that you had to try to start it , wait till the theft light turned off, turn key off, try to start it, wait till theft light went off.....
and so on for I think 3 times total , and on the 4th try it starts and runs..
Are 98's different than an 01?

I dont think you have to try to start it. But maybe you do.

For 3 times total, sometimes you do... but i've never had a car that didnt do it after the first time. It's good that you brought that up though.
