You should just be able to swap the motors and be done with it, they should be identical (minus any mods you've done). You don't have to replace any wiring harnesses or computers when you going to put the same engine in the car that it already has.

^ Exactly what you need to do. In 98 the 2.2 got renamed the 2200 and got some revisions to it, so you'll need the newer PCM to run it. Basically cuz of some important things like the crank trigger and stuff is a bit different.

On the bright side, the harness should just swap right over. The engine harness is seperate from the other harnesses, so that should be all you need.

Please educate yourself before offering assistance to others. It's commonly known for the longest time that the 95-97 engine and the 98+ engine are quite a bit different.

OK, aparently my sources are off, my bad. Even educated people (wich I am), can be wrong sometimes. At least you caught the error, thats what really matters, no reason to get sandy.

I'm done

Apparently they're way off. Get new sources.

so the engine harness unplugs from somewhere and will plug in to the rest of the 97 wiring? if so then this doesn't seem too hard at all

The engine harness will unplug from the C100 connector (just to the right of the steering column when you're looking under the hood. You need a 6mm (I believe) socket to disconnect it from the car, then your new harness will plug right in.

awesome...i also read somewhere else that you can leave the other wiring in the 97 and change the injector plugs....but if i can take the wiring harness with the motor that is what i will do....any ideas on about how long the swap will take me...it's a standard so i need to pull the trans also correct?

No. The crank sensor changed, the 97 PCM will not tell the coils to fire correctly. You need a 2200 harness.

If they're both 5spd, you do not need to change the transmission too. The transmission, clutch, and flywheel will be the same.

i understand that but to get the engine out...you need to take the trans out....i was just reading on alldata that in 99 there were 2 different c100 connectors used....could this be a problem i may face?

You can take the engine out without taking out the transmission. But you might want to go ahead and pull the transmission as well to make life easier.

No one can answer that for you really. Depends on your mechanical ability/experience. However, if you have all the parts, and you stay right on it, and you're good at it, you should be able to get it done in about 8-12 hours of work. Quicker if you're really good and have the proper tools, longer if you're not sure what you're doing, don't have all the *correct* tools, and/or you run into any problems.

Depending on your ability, how long you can work hard at it for a long time, and if you have anyone helping you, this should be a weekend job at best.

Again, we can't really answer this question, but this should give you some info to base it on.

but was it a manual trans car?...to pull the engine in a manual trans car you have to first pull the transmission....and does anyone know about the 2 different c-100 connectors used in 99?

You do not have to pull the tranny to swap your engine. I did the V6 swap in my car, even pulled and replaced the V6 once so that I could do a few things on it, and I haven't had the tranny out yet. And yes, I have a 5-speed.

It might be easier to remove the tranny, but it will take longer.

Thats great that I dont have to use another tranny, the only other question that I have is what about the wiring? I would think that it would be a different harness, and what about the computer? I mean, if everything works from my stock wiring harness right on! And which cars came with the 3.4 V6? I know its a silly question, but I am more used to the old V8s and that kind of thing, This whole sport compact stuff is new to me and I am enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for your help!

Vehicles that came with 3.4's
Pontiac Aztec, Grand am, Montana
Chevy Venture,Malibu, Impala, Monte carlo(i think)
Im sure I missed several models, It was a popular engine among GM products.
