Question about our stock mufflers (2003)
Saturday, June 02, 2007 2:13 PM
Hey guys n gals....Not sure if all years are different sizes...but I have an 03. Ive searched on this site but found nothing on it about this (although im not the best searcher so i apologize if its been asked already). The strap that goes around the muffler (ls sport), got rusted and broke. I took it to Monroe Muffler and the dude got one from a place to save me a couple bucks. He tells me on the day he got it that it may not fit. It didn't, so he got this long 5" screw or so to connect it together. How hard is it to find one of these thin straps for our 2003 muffler? Wouldn't the dealer have it? And about how much do you think it would cost for one? This guy is telling me its hard to find one, though he told me he could get one at the dealer for $40 (i already paid him $40 cuz i said i didnt like the way it looks so he said he would get one and still never has). Now he says he can't find one because of the muffler's size. I am disgusted by the way its connected by that screw and sticks out a bit and is noticeable at certain angles. My dad cuts this guys hair for free and its been almost a month since the guy has been "searching" and this past monday I called him and left a message and I got no answer (not even a "im trying to look for it"). My dad asked him about it today and thats when he said he is having trouble finding the part for the year. He says its bigger than the 02.

Any answers would help a ton. Thanks!!!

p.s., someone won't be going to Monroe M. after this is all settled n done...damn right!!
Customer service @ monroe m......FTMFL!!! lol i love that.

As far as I know they are all the same for all 3rd Jen J-bodies. However to get the beast deal go to a junk yard. I bet you can find what you need and just pay a few bucks for it.

You could go to a dealer but like you found expect to pay an arm and a leg for it. Even if its a simple bolt.

I call a dealer and have them send me one. The ones that the parts stores carry never fit. Even if they send you their muffler.
Any way plan on changing that band at least once every 2 years, they never seem to last longer than 2 around here, even the ones from the dealer.
Oh, I have never seen different size stock mufflers on 3rd gens. Pretty sure they are all the same.

when i get a chance, I will take a picture of how the strap/band looks...just gotta wait til tomorrow or so. the guy is being a douche and hasn't called me. i'll call up a dealer around here and see what they have to say so that I can have a definate answer to back myself up. I already paid for the part, just waiting for him to call me back. until then, i'll keep this one until it breaks. when it does, i'll go to him to get me the part (for free of course since i already paid). thanks though.

Muffler shops should have all sizes of them. When I had my aftermarket installed, they had one that was the same style, little smaller, fit perfect. I have mine that you could have for the price of shipping, but you could probably get on at a yard for cheaper than that. Go to a better exhaust shop
