will a 1998 driver and pass cavalier airbags work in my 2000 cavy. what year airbags are interchangable with a 2000 cavalier?
2000 sdm only works with a 2000
Not entirely true... but close for most people
The driver's airbag will only work with the right clockspring, because the connector is different between 99 and 00. Any 95-99 would work in those years, and 00-05 within those years. Of course, the airbag shape changed for 03... so if you have a set of 03 bags, you need to swap the 03 steering wheel too.. (make sense?)
The passenger side airbag is pretty much the same for all years, but the connector changed. If you change it, it'll swap to any year. I'm using a 99 set of bags in a 2000 Cavalier... using a 2000 SDM (sensing & diagnostic module).
The SDM is a different story. 95 is unique. 96-99 are the same. 00 is unique in the plastic keying (also it speaks "Class 2" with the BCM and PCM... so a 96-99 SDM won't work in a 2000-05 car), but the module itself is the same as the 01-05 (03-05 without the side seat airbags). You swap the plastic key on the connector, and you can swap 00 to 01 and vice versa. A friend of mine is running a 00 module and bags in a 01 Cavalier. No problems... just swapped the plastic key. When you get to it, you'll know what I'm talking about
So... to answer your question.... the airbags will work, if you swap the clockspring and passenger connector.... but the SDM won't. You need a 00-05 (w/o side bags if it's 03-05) to work in a 00+ car.
If a 2002 airbag will work in your car, I've got one for you in perfect condition. PM me for a price, or make me an offer.
