(dirt track stock car) i have a 2002 cavalier with a 2.2l engine manual tranny. i want to put a 97 2.4l in it with a manual isuzzu tranny.
i took the engine/dash harness out of the 97 and swapped into the 2002. are the tranny and engine mounts the same? and is that all ill have to change? thanks
also will i have to go with the getrag tranny or doesnt matter?
im kinda confused...do you already have the engine and tranny..are you trying to get the best? trying to get whatever you can? of course the getrag would be better but you dont NEED it..i need more details on what your trying to do
I don't see why you're confused? He's got a 2002 Cavalier, which had a 2200 engine in it, with a Getrag transmission. He wants to swap in a 97 2.4L with Isuzu trans... ???
Everything related to the transmission changed between the Isuzu (95-99) and Getrag (00-05). If you want to swap the Isuzu in, you'll need to modify the mounts for the transmission. Same with the shifter.. clutch master and slave cylinders... etc..
If you want to use the same mounts... you'll need a 2000-02 2.4L Getrag transmission.... in order to bolt up to the 2.4L engine. The bellhousing is different than the 2.2L (2200) engine, and the 2.2L Ecotec.
Its alot of work to swap an isuzu into a getrag equiped car...... one major is that no one carries the rear mount bracket you need to weld to the frame for the isuzu.....

Also you cant use the 97 wire harness and ECU for that. You'll need something in from an 00 or 01 model w/ 2.4.

2002 cavalier 2200 manual
2002 cavalier 2.4L manual (are these two trannys the same)
Also shooff mentioned above changing to a 2000+ engine harness?
the reason im trying to do this is because a friend of mine has a 2002 2200/manual tranny. i always run the 2.4L manual i have both trannys so using one or the other wouldnt be a problem. but it seems like more work than its worth and i wish i could just find a 97.
would a 95-99 car work with no problems or do they start changing in 98-99? thanks

Yes, except for the bell housing side, they are different to match up to the engine blocks.

The 00+ J bodies use a more complicated system (ECM + BCM), where the older 95-99 J bodies did not. If you are running a '00 car, get a harness, or add the additional wires to it, for a 00+ car. Converting a '00+ car to a pre '00 setup isnt IDEAL.

Ok, that makes perfect sense
I was thinking.. "am I missing something in reading this post??"
