I noticed on saturns between 2000 - 2002 (while chevy was running with the 2.4 before the ecotec was put it mid year 2002) that they had a "Twin Cam 2.2" that looked damn near close to the ecotec
Is there a difference between this and the ecotec??? or did they just rename it to "ecotec" when they put it in non Saturns, so it could have a spiffy name but still be just a smaller version of the Twin Cam 2.4 that had been going in the Z24s.
[quote=97trd(???™)]that is a eco tec
So there is no difference besides the badging... on the motor???? cause the "Saturn Twin Cam 2.2" was in use 2 years before any motor was named "Ecotec"
i see that... but pre 2002 ... did anyone refer to it as the ecotec??? (since it wasnt stamped on the motor that way)... and is it still an L61?
and if these motors are supposed to be "the @!#$" ... why does my stock 2.4 stomp all over them (both the saturns and the 03 + Js (and mid year 02 LS))
i always assumed that the ecotec was based on the Quad motors and was reduced in size, and "ecotec" sounds better than "Twin Cam 2.2" when they had been using "Twin Cam 2.4" and thats why my car was faster...

Toyota Cavalier Engine (funny storry on this... the motor the chevy dealer put in my car after they repoed it from the former owner... they put the wrong size valve locks in and it blew up. I needed a motor installed within a week and a half... The only motor at the time that was already built and ready to be shipped was a rebuilt toyota cavalier motor from a motor rebuilder in Japan. $10000.00 Later the motor is here and installed)
You paid $10,000 for a 2.4 Twin Crapper From Japan.....Well that explains it all right there man! That's some JDM @!#$ right there, like 400 horses at the rear wheels....With the e-brake on! And not to mention, you got that thing ordered/shipped and installed in a week and a half, simply amazing. Not that Jasper, or GM for that matter, has any 2.4s waiting around to be shipped out, not here, we get to buy the Jap crap from the Japanese Motor Rebuilder-er-ders.
very constructive.... the name Special Ed suits you...
and for the record... Jasper had a 3 week delay on the engine... GM had a 2 week delay on the engine (And it wasnt complete), everyone else had a delay in one way shape or form...
I would have loved to get a Jasper engine, cause it was only 5 grand installed... but i needed my car back ASAP...
and you can dislike the 2.4 all you want... im very happy with mine...
^^ You don't have to say that your engine is a Toyota cavalier 2.4....just say 2.4...it's the same man....

Yes, considering the only retard here is the guy that dropped $10,000 into his daily driver when he could have bought another one for that much! If you're gonna throw name comment around lets look at yours...Xstreme Delusions, figuring that you made a spelling attempt at extreme, and failed miserably I might add, we have extreme delusions, trade in the "S" for an "A" and a "L" and we get Extremely Delusional. You must be if you think anyone on here is gonna believe your Toyota 2.4 story.

I'd be happy with the 2.4 too, 14.8 stock man!! And you had to replace it! Has the head gasket popped yet?? Pushing all that compression and all.
To further on, a couple of american cars to watch out for cause the motors are built by Japanese Motor Builder-ers:
Pontiac Vibe shares the toyota celica motor (12.3 stock, spinning the whole way!)
Saturn "C6 Z06 Eater" Vue holds the same V6 as a honda element (9s no problem if you remove the airbox!)
BTW, nice time slip, where is all the info at on it???

yea i know its the same... its nice to say that the motor was built and intended for one, which mine was, though...
Special Ed: I could have bought another J with the 5 grand that jasper wanted for its motor... if i had a few weeks to play with, it would have been a different story.... and GM would not sell a complete motor ... i could get a block, and i could get a head... (after the delay)... but the cam journals were on back order for god knows how long
Now you can go back to trolling the boards, and looking to pick fights... its your way of compensating for something...
have a nice day, this thread has gone way off topic... I'm done
that is the ecotec thats in the Jbody. just different ID cover.
you do know that Saturn is owned by GM right?
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I am just confused on what you mean by "cam journals." The LD9 doesn't have caps that bolt down the cams to the head like the Ecotec/420A/B-series/Just about any other DOHC 4 banger. Perhaps you are referring to the cam towers/ saddles/ lifter barrels/ etc..

And no...Ecotec and the Twin Cam are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT motors.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
the early eco tec used in the saturn had lower compression , and lower hp rating than the 1 used in the j's
it was refered to as a eco tec , but wasnt used at the more common levels of the industry
GM actually had eco tec running in some proto-type and concept cars dating back to the mid 90's
