My 93 Cavy VL warms up so quickly... i can let it idle for 5 minutes with the heat on full blast and its decently warm inside the car
my 00 Cavy Z24 takes a year and a day to warm up... i can let it idle all day and its not until i drive it and get the motor to operating temp before i get any realy heat out of the vents
is this a third gen thing, or a 2.4 litre thing... or is it just my car (perhaps a gunked up heater core or something constricting the flow of dexcool)
If it's properly cold out, along the lines of -10C/15F, my '97 2.2 Cavy takes about 5 minutes of idling to even think about coming off the extreme bottom of the temp gauge, and about another 5-10 minutes to get near operating temperature. Driving it speeds things up of course.

With a 3400 in there it warms up real quick.
if i leave it sit for like 5 mins or so when i come out the car is warm enough to atleast sit in and drive
my 00 z24 doesnt get to normal running temp while idling, i have to drive it to get the temp up to normal. Im just thinking its cold out and the rad works well.
driving it will get it to normal temp in about 2-4mins.

mines the exact same way...
i let it idle for 20 minutes in 17 degree F weather... and got in it and it wasnt any warmer then when i started, the gauge hadnt moved to the first tick mark yet, and my friends and i were shivering... then driving around the block twice it was starting to be at least tolerable...

My question for you is, does your heater only blow cold when driving? Does it start blowing cold again when you let it idle?
1983 Camaro Z28
mine takes forever to heat up and seems to drink gas when its cold worse than soing 75 on the highway once its warm.

Its only cold at inital startup idle... once i start driving it, it slowly starts blowing warm.... once it is warm, it'll keep blowing warm...
its just... i can let it idle for a while... but its not till i put it in gear and get some RPMs on the motor before it will get that initial heat out of the vents...

Same here, seems like if I want the car to be warm before I head off to work on a cold day I have to start it before I go to bed. I don't even wait anymore. I just get in, start driving and deal with the cold until it finally decides to blow warm/hot air.
Something I have noticed in my '03 cavy is, if i let it idle for like 5-10 minutes, it goes half way up the gauge. Also when i barely start it i usually turn the air on for just a few seconds and that will speed it up sometimes. Thats just me though, I don't know why it does.
5-7 minutes, typically....granted its been around freezing since I got the damn thing
my 93 cavalier will warm up in 5 - 10 minutes... remote start was my friend when it was my daily ...
thats why im so surprised the Z is so damn slooooooow
my girls 99 malibu 2.4 takes a really long time to warm up. my old 2200 sunfire took a good while. my 04 cav ecotec warms up really quickly...probably a iron block vs aluminum block thing...
