can a 2002 chevy 2.4L be swapped in to a 97 cavalier z24 w/blown up2.4L? if so what mods need to be done. I know you would have to changs injectors and what else?????
everybody must be like me dont no. thanks anyway!
no ones answering because the answer should be obvious
Yes it can... The 2002 doesn't have an EGR, so you would need to swap the part that has the EGR mount (I think its the header... not 100% sure though) from the 97 to the 2002.
this is EXACTLY what to do......
injectors High to Low Impedance
EGR can be put on 2002 but use your 96 exhaust manifold; if you dont want an EGR valve GM makes a block off plate BUT you will throw a CEL. If you plan on boosting it you will definitly have to remove the EGR.
The most time consuming is the KNOCK Sensor. The sensor on the 96 is way bigger than the 2000+. So, you have to drill out the sensor hole and retap it for the bigger 96. I can not remember the drill and tap size so you might want to check some stickys.
Just a word of advice, i had a 2000 motor in a 96 that i ended up rebuilding TWICE. I kept blowing rings in the SAME CYLINDER that is directly in front of the drilled out knock sensor hole. Just check some yards for a 96-99 and you will save yourself alot of time and money. The compression ratio also changed from 9.5:1 ---- 9.7:1.

couldn't you just swap in the motor, wiring harness, and computer? or are you not looking at doing that much woork?
swpping the harness is alot more work. All he as to do is change the 00
+ part for the 99- parts.

hey scotty(section8cav) if cant give me a straight answer dont answer at all and it aint obvious win other people telll you it will work with no mods like a chevy dealership. everybody else thanks for the replys.
im sure if you would search it would help
taking a motor from an 00+ to put into a 95-99 is some work since things changed from 1999-2000. i dont know much about swapping but im sure there would be a good amount of wiring and also they used a different tranny in the 00+ so i dont know if the 95-99 trans will work with those motors or not. (i dont see why not but again i dont know much about swapping). your best bet is to ask lenko
..... did my first post show up? whoa..... i was gonna say that i need 2 quit smokin weed BUT, I think you guys need 2 start!

lenko isnt gonna waste his time and posts to tell him something that has already been covered in this post. Oh yeah, i forgot to tell you.... the isuzu trans will NOT bolt up to a 2.4 that has had a getrag on it... <------Sarcasm (In case you didnt know)

Waste? Ha ha... it's never a waste of time if it helps people
And posts... I'm Premium
The 2.4L block is the same no matter what year... the stuff that's attached to it changed slightly between 98 and 99... manifolds... wiring... injectors... knock sensor. That's the big differences.
Take the 2002 2.4L, tear it down to the block, head, oil pan, timing assembly.... then swap the stuff from your 97 motor. Easy as pie. You'll want a new exhaust manifold gasket.. probably an EGR gasket too. Everything else swaps over, it's not that hard.
Good luck
lenko is too nice and im too broke for premium....
