Seeing as how the engine will be apart anyhow, what other things could be done to insure a longer lasting LD9?
Depending on how many miles the car has, I would replace the entire timing assembly (timing chain, intake and exhaust cam gears, crank gear and tensioner). Since you are already removing the chain, you might as well save yourself some time.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
I would put a new tensioner on it, maybe some new gaskets in the timing chain area.
FU Tuning
New Tenshioner Shoe,, and Tenshioner + Crank case gasket. Thats it, those chains are built to last, they are not a belt
. and the gears are fine as well. Been into mmine TO many times.

i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
hmmm, it would also be a good idea to get a new water pump
UFlip06 said it best: Just look underneath the engine and if you see big hairy balls it's a 2.4 Twin Cam, if they're shaved it's an Ecotec and if you see nothing it's a 2200!
Pfft.... while you're in there... hop it up a bit! Cams, head, etc...
