Engine Bay Cleaning

What method do you use for cleaning the engine and it's surrounding components?

Cloth and elbow grease?
Some sort of spray and clean it off with a hose?

Is it safe to spray the LD9 directly? What parts should not recieve a direct shot of water?

Everyone has their own way of cleaning the motor.
This was just a quick search...

Depending on the condition it begins at:
1) Pressure wash
2a) Simple Green
2b) Rinse
2c) Wipe Dry
3) Armour All Rubber & Plastics
4) Polishing with Mother Alumn. Polish on Polished / smooth metal parts.

I will use Q-Tips to get dirt out of difficult cracks and angles. Small wire wheel to remove any RTV that may be exposed and to breath life in to the meal of the head.

Another Method:

Things you'll need....
1. a good high- pressure car wash.
2. A big bottle of "Formula 2001" by Turtle wax.
3. Some rags.
This trick is very easy and inexpensive, and the results are amazing.
Okay take your car to the car wash and use the engine cleaner under your hood. Let it soak for a bit and then rinse it off. When your ready, Soak everything under your hood with 2001. If you have excessive dirt and oil grime under the hood, wipe it clean FIRST. After soaking everything with 2001, you should have a nasty white milky substance on everything. DO NOT WIPE IT OFF. Close your hood and start your car. Let your car run for 15-30 minutes, or until your car's temp gauge reads normal temp for 15 minutes.
Okay, now pop your hood again and drool, because it will look just like it did on the showroom floor. Maybe even Better.

Method #3

Step 1) Doust the whole engine bay with engine degreaser and let sit for 15 minutes
2)Power wash with hot water, I unhooked my (laundry)washer to get a hot water tap. Note: engines are made to get wet, it shouldn't hurt it unless you directly aim into the alt. or PCM or something.
3)Let dry.
4)take Armor All Tire Care and lightly dust your motor.
5)anything that deosnt look clean or shiny give it a little personal attention. Use nevr-dull on any unpainted metal surface ie. TB, A/C hose inlets/outlets.
This may not be the quick fix you are looking for but it works and looks great.

Those are some pretty good tips.

I noticed that in Method #2 in the instructions it says "a good high- pressure car wash".........but it's never used.

I would guess that method 3 makes the best results.

I'm actually cleaning my engine bay today. I always keep mine up so it never gets too dirty. If you start off with a good engine bay then I simply use car soap and a wash rag wipe it all down, rinse. I will wipe some of the things off, but mostly let it air dry. once nice and dry you can spray the egine bay down with some Armorall. Then close the hood start the engine for a few minutes to allow a little heat to start. It will bake on the armorall for a nice look. The only think I cover on my 2.4 is the air filter on my intake, nothing else and I worried about getting wet. Now if the engine is really dirty a pressure washer is always a good way to go.
