First off, what year, engine?? Whats wrong with it?

I was just making sure.
96 Cavelier, 2.4L engine, automatic transmission.
What happened was, I just replaced the rack and pinion. After putting it all back together I find that the speedometer will not work and the transmission will not shift gears. Nothing appears out of the ordinary.
Sounds like the vehicle speed sensor is unplugged or the wiring is damaged. The VSS is on the trans near where the right side half-shaft goes into the trans.
