Bob did you check your Leds back there behind the speedo if that is the culprit your better off replacing the cluster with one dirt cheap from a Junk yard, because from what i have heard if the odometer starts screwing up you can't really fix it . HAHA i was going to say ecm for a minute but then i thought wait that doesn't have anything to do with the odometer

my odometer is a spaz, it like tweeks and flashes switches between trip and the milage, screws up the numbers to weird shapes. when i hit the dash above the odometer it usually fixes itself....i just havent gotten around to taking the dash apart to check the connection. It doesnt do it constantly only every once in awhile so i'm not in a hurry to fix it. It always goes back to the correct milage after a couple seconds on its own anyways. It doesnt really bother me.

Niteowl
I thought that the mileage was stored in the BCM. Is that a 96-99 thing with it in the cluster?

I just fixed my spazzing out odometer in my 2000 sunfire gt. I just took the gauge cluster out of the car and snapped the back plastic cover off and then resoldered all of the pins for the odometer display. Works great now and it didn't take long to do either.

The mileage is saved on the ECU in the 00+ cars. Anything before that is saved on the cluster.

Worst thing that could happen.... maybe you'd lose 30,000 miles.

Shooff yeah he might lose 30,000 miles, but then come trade in time isn;t that going to be a prob because with the odometer goofing up and the actual mileage not being there unless he could remember off the top of his head what it was .

You don't have to worry about mileage if it is 2000 and up.

Greg so if you have a 2000 and up J and your odometer says you have 120,000 on your car when you really only have say 60,000 and you go to trade the car in the fact that the odometer is incorrect theoretically will make no difference whatsoever.
