swapping 2K 2200 into 97 2.2

Ok I think I have 98% of this swap figured out. The only question I have is will the ECU from the 2K communicate via the serial data ports with the EBCM and the instrument cluster or do they use different protocol?

I am using the motor, trans, ECU and engine wiring harness from the 2K using all the accessories from the 2K motor to keep it simple.

They are very similar and the only major difference I have found is that the 2K uses a BCM and the 97 does not. And the location of the EBCM is different although functions and wire # and function seem to be the similar.

So I guess my question is has anyone swapped a 2K+ motor and ecu into a 95-99 car and used the early instrument cluster and EBCM and had/not had issues with communication between the three??

If you use the 2k+ ECU, you'll need to use the 2k+ cluster and BCM. There is no BCM in the 97, so you pretty much have to swap in ALL the wiring from the 2200. Alternatively you could use the ECU from a 99 or 98 and not worry about the BCM and cluster, since that ECU will work with your existing equipment, and is designed to control the 2200.

WOW!!!

Ok I have been sifting through piles of wiring diagrams and it looks like i have it all figured out. I can use a 99 ECU (98 won't work because they had an EGR valve and the 2K does not). I can either try and find the engine harness from said 99 and use that or take the 97 and the 99 and frankenstien it. the pin-outs on the ECM are all the same (except paragraph below) so I would have to use that half of the 97 harness and the sensor end of the 2K harness because the location of key components is different(coil packs, etc). I will try to find a 99 in the yard on Sunday but it will prob end up being a needle in a haystack.

Ok the only thing i see that may be a problem is that I want to use the trans out of the 2K, but there is circuit #687 in the 2K diagram. This goes to pin # 52 on the ECU and is labeled 3-2 SS control. So it is the 3-2 downshift control. Neither the 97 or the 99 use this function. So without it will the trans work or should i just use the 97 trans and not chance it?

Anyone have thoughts?

Thanx
Jon

Ok well I just went out to the harness out of the 2K and for whatever reason circuit #687 that goes to pin 52 is not there. It is in the diagram but not the harness, so I guess that answers my question about the transmission. looks like all I need to do is either find a 99 harness or start re-pinning the 97 with some of the 2K wires(what fun).
