I'm really only a newb to just this site.
I had posted this in the Newbies section but it was suggested I should repost it here for more results.
I've owned one Jbody in the past - It was a red 98 Sunfire GT, that I purchased new at the time.
I sold it about a year later because I was making a lot more money then and bought my red 97 Camaro Z28. Way more car.
My daily driver is, and always has been since I was 15, a 1986 VW Diesel Golf. It currently has 405,000 KM(Canada eh! on the Odom.
It's still running and all.......but it creaks and groans - doesn't like to start in cold weather - and is generally uncomfortable to drive.
I've decided I deserve something better as a daily driver after 16 years of driving the VW.
My car of choice is a Cavalier Z24.
I'm leaning towards the 2000 - 2002 years, with the 2.4L.
The main reason I'm going for those years is the incredible low prices.
Although I have owned one - I don't actually know much about what year would be best to purchase.
Was there some subtle differences in engines or accesories that may have been better in certain years?
I appriciate any help provided.
no real differences, except the 2002, which is the last year of the Z24 in the States, and the last year of the 2.4L Z24 in Canada, was given ground effects stock.

a suggestion would be to get an eco. all i hear are good things about the quality, performance, etc. and since the ecos started in 02, it should be very close in price as what you were planning to spend anyway.

Was the Z24 available in 2002 with either the 2.4L or the eco?
in the U.S., the Z24 stopped in 2002, and GM put the Eco in, and it was badged an LS Sport. I believe the Z24 badging continued in Canada, with the Eco motor in it.
basically, 2002 is the last year of the 2.4 TC motor.

yeah i'd say if anything go with an eco they're pretty good engines power on demand when you need it etc just don't use the gas when u start it or you'll be there all day lol.
