hey guys, what motor options do I have for my 1995 Pontiac Sunfire 5-speed?
I blew the current motor (2.2), what years will fit? also I'm guessing I can only put a 2.2L in there without getting into swapping a ton of other parts?

i would say it depends on what you want to do, i know people on here that have put like 3.1's and 3.4 V6s in there J's in some cases even the 3.8 but that would involve swapping some stuff. I think in one case it had even been mentioned that it was possible to put a V8 in a J body but that i would imagine is a major undertaking because you have to change a bunch of stuff if you don't feel like swapping out a ton of parts and doing some major construction i would say just put another 2.2 in you said 95 so i'm guessing yours is going to be the 2.2 ohv.

I don't want to put a v6 or anything crazy as I need this car everyday for work.
I guess my real question is what year 2.2 OHV can I use?
does the engine have to be a 95 2.2 or what other years can I use?

i would say probably a 96 possibly 97 2.2 would work also not sure off hand how long the ohv's were around might be up to as far as 99 but i think they may have stopped making the ohv's by that point am probably mistaken though.

cool cause on car-part.com they were only showing 94-95 motor's so I thought I was limited to only those two years.

You Actually might be as i said don't take my word for it though if nothing else and you are you could always throw a 94 in and be done with it, that way it's not this long drawn out process you just throw the other engine in close the hood and be done with it. Well not literally like that but in a manner of speaking haha.
