OK, here is the situation. I am doing a 5 speed Eco swap into a 97 Z for someone. I am also turbo-charging it. I know that you normally swap over the whole tank, sender and all for the swap, but this is a little different. I am installing an MSD inline pump, the link for the pump is here

He is also going with a full set of digital gauges. Now what I need to know is this, does the signal for the fuel level sensor run through the PCM or not? If so, what is the ohm ratings for the 2000+ sensor? The reason I am asking is because this is the gauge that he has right now.

I am thinking this, and correct me if i am wrong here. If the signal is run through the PCM, i will have to swap in a 2000+ sensor/sender and make sure the aftermarket gauge has the same ohm rating, but if it does not, Im thinking that I can keep the sender/sensor from the 97, use the inline fuel pump and make sure the gauge has the same ohm rating as a pre 99.
Need a help pretty soon, I am getting the car this coming weekend, thanx in advance guys.
Oops, Its a 98Z, not that it matters too mcuh, just thought i would add that.
I would unplug the pcm, turn the key on and see if the gauge moves, if it doesnt move then It goes through the pcm. I dont know what exactly your doing but the pcm will send a code if the guage is disconnected from the pcm. a resistor between 40 and 240 ohms will have to be installed to the pcm gauge wires to run an am gauge. I think the pin for the sender is 59 of c1 and is purple.
If the gauge moves with the pcm unplugged and key on, your good to go.

Strangely enough, on my 97 the ECU does not control the fuel gauge. How I know this, I have no factory ECU, and the gauge still moves. It's the only one that does.
my book shows pin b7 for chevy , b5 for pontiac for the 98 fuel gauge sensor signal
